Betty Ann Proal Obituary

Betty Ann Pokorney Proal, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully passed on August 23rd, 2017 while in the loving care of Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital Main. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Alfred Pokorney and Clara Mary Helen Schuller, and her husband, Henry Eugene "Cap" Proal. She is survived by her sister, Marlea Pokorney, her three children, Cynthia Wasinger, Douglas Proal, and Pamela Jones, her six grandchildren, and her six great-grandchildren (ages 1-7).

She was born in Gibbon, Nebraska on February 18th, 1927. Her family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska shortly after she started school. She lived and worked there until she met and married her beloved husband "Cap" in 1946. Their journey brought them to settle in Security, Colorado where they raised their three children and enjoyed a fulfilling life together.

Her passions included her faith, her family, her music, her work, and her community. She and "Cap" were instrumental in the development, expansion, and support of their beloved Good Shepard United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was dedicated to her family. Her love and generosity knew no bounds. She was a member of the Colorado Springs Chorale for two seasons then joined the Soli Deo Gloria Choir where she sang for the remainder of her singing avocation. While a member of that choir, she was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City and was also given the opportunity to join with the Colorado Springs Chorale and perform atop Pikes Peak for the 200th Anniversary of Zebulon Pike's aborted climb up the mountain that bears his name. She worked for many years at and retired from the Department of Human Services where she held a respected position in the Old Age Pension Division. She was a loyal supporter of the Republican Party and a committed volunteer in any endeavor that benefited her community.

She will be lovingly remembered and celebrated at a memorial service to be held at the Good Shepard United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Dr., Security, Colorado 80911 at 11:00 AM (visitation at 10:30 AM) on Thursday August 31st, 2017. Interment to immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery (family only).
