Betty Chapman Obituary

Betty Stewart Chapman, age 89, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1971 and formerly of Vandenberg AFB, California and Boston, Massachusetts passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. She had retired after many years as an Executive Secretary for an aircraft manufacturer and had previously worked in the U.S. Foreign Services. Betty Stewart was born on February 24, 1921 in Washington, D.C. to Howard Richard and Grace Rosella (Ward) Stewart. She attended high school there and later married James Mason Chapman on June 20, 1958 in Colorado Springs. She had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, Bingo and going out to lunch with her many friends. Mrs. Chapman is survived by her brother: Richard Brooks Stewart of Bunker Hill, West Virginia; her niece: Barbara Ann (husband, Jack) Fisher of Leesburg, Virginia; niece: Janet Lee Zintl of Brakenheim-Hausen, Germany; nephew: Howard Robert (wife, Ann) Stewart, Jr. of University Park, Maryland; nephew: Harry Wayson (wife, Denise) Stewart of Ellicott City, Maryland; niece: Sarah Jacob Brooks Stewart of Marina Del Ray, California and her brother-in-law: Theodore "Ted" (wife, Dee) Chapman of Arcadia, California, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim in 2003 and her brother: Howard Robert Stewart in 2007. Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at The Bridge, 2494 International Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Memorials in Betty's name may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbott Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905.
