Betty DeBias Obituary

DeBias
Betty "Skinny, Mitzi" Elizabeth
(Cizmar) DeBias
December 8, 1930
July 22, 2022

Betty DeBias, 91 (born Dorothy Elizabeth, a.k.a. Mitzi and Skinny), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away July 22, 2022, surrounded by family in her daughter's (Kathy) home in Redford, Michigan. She was born on December 8, 1930, in Blue Island, Illinois, and was the daughter of Peter and Mary (Krezik) Cizmar. She married Attilio DeBias who preceded her in death in 2002.
She was a member of the Counsel of Immaculate Conception Parish Latin Mass in Security, CO, and was a parishioner at both St. Mary's Cathedral in Colorado Springs and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Latin Mass in Littleton, CO. Betty, along with her husband "Tillie," proudly helped facilitate the opening of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Latin Mass church in Littleton with Archbishop Chaput's blessing in 2009. Prior to moving to Colorado, both Betty and Tillie were parishioners of St. Donatus Parish in Blue Island, IL.
Never one to stop, Betty founded four family businesses throughout her lifetime: Mr. Softee and Swenson's franchises, DeBiaso's Ice Cream and (Mitzi's) Fine Candies, and Triple D Sanitation along with other endeavors. She and Tillie "retired" in 2000.
Betty is survived by her 6 children, Diana DeBias of Orland Park, IL, David DeBias of Penrose, CO, Donald (Patti) DeBias of Portage, IN, Kathleen (Jon) Halstead of Redford, MI, Thomas DeBias of Penrose, CO, and Carol (Jeff) DiBiase-Ruffe of Arvada, CO; two sisters, Elaine Haskell of Downers Grove, IL, and Helen Gioiosa of Tinley Park, IL; 5 grandchildren, Julie (Shawn) Cunningham, Michael Halstead, Donald DeBias (preceded her in death), Samantha DeBias, Sophia Ruffe, Olivia Ruffe, and Emily DeBias; and one great-grandson, Silas Cunningham. She was preceded in death by brothers Rudy and Peter and five sisters, Mildred, Martha, Anna, Marion, and Agnes.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 31, 2022, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 16600 S. Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477, with a private reception following at Gatto's Restaurant 8005 W. 183rd St. Tinley Park, IL 60477.
Chapel Service begins on Monday, August 1st from 9 a.m. at Brady-Gill Funeral Home 16600 S. Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. George Catholic Church 6707 W 175th St, Tinley Park, IL 60477. Private burial service to follow at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.

My memories of Auntie Mitzi will be everlasting. She was one of the most gentle and kind women I have ever known. I will especially treasure the memory of working on the ice cream truck as a child! What a treasure! I also loved working the ice cream truck at the St. Donata's picnic in the summer! What a great tradition!
