Betty King Obituary

Betty King stepped into the presence of her Lord on July 20, 2009. She was born Betty Kathleen McQuinn on May 1, 1923 to Russell Warren McQuinn and Velma Cecil (Heflin) McQuinn in Kokomo, Indiana. She joined the family with her two elder sisters Ruth McQuinn Radtke and Dorothy McQuinn Ponto Smith with her younger sister Norma McQuinn Deranek to come along a few years later. Her family moved to South Bend, Indiana where she went to school and later met and married Lawrence L. King on January 31, 1942. Their first son Charles was born in 1949 and a second son Timothy came along in 1957. Betty and Larry owned and operated a soda pop bottling plant in South Bend until 1959 when they moved to Southern California and ended up in Monterey Park where she worked and raised her family. She retired from the Weber Baking Co. in 1978. Betty and Larry moved to Lompoc, CA in 1988 and enjoyed retirement there and made many close friends. In 2001 they moved to Colorado Springs CO with their son Tim and his wife Judy to be close to their other son Charles and their grandchildren. From 2006 to 2008 they lived at Sunridge Retirement community here in the Springs and since 2008 moved back in with Tim and Judy. Betty enjoyed music and singing in her church choir where ever she was living. She loved the Lord, her family and enjoyed card games, eating at Wade's Cafe, playing her player piano, teaching Sunday school and reading Louis L'Amour books. She was a great mid-western cook, not fancy but oh so good. She was also the 7x Great granddaughter of Pocahontas and John Rolf. Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years Larry King of Colorado Springs, her Son and Daughter-in-law Charles and Marcie King of Denver, her Son and Daugher in-law Tim and Judy King of Colorado Springs, her sister Norma Deranek of Cedarville, Ohio, four Grandchildren Ayren Rivera of Los Angeles, Joshua King (Currently serving in Iraq), Rebekah Ossowski of Denver and Benjamin King of Chicago and four Great grandchildren Annah Rivera, Kaitlyn Ossowski, Raquel Rivera and Tysen Rivera. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 23, 2009 at Advantage Funeral Home, 829 S. Hancock Ave, Colorado Springs, CO.
