Betty Koerner Obituary

Betty Lee Kincaid Koerner passed away Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the Life Care Center, Colorado Springs, CO.  Betty was born May 17, 1925 near Hutchinson, Kansas, in the Valley Township, Reno County, to Nena Phillippi Kincaid and Gayled Winfield Kincaid.  She married Chester Otto Koerner, February 14, 1942. Betty was a vivacious lady and loved life.  She went to work during World War II at Walker Air Field near Hays , Kansas, thus beginning a life as a Civil Servant.  Betty served at Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Carson, Peterson Field and Ent AFB in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  After retiring from Federal Civil Service, Betty worked as a travel agent, and tour guide, fulfilling one of her loves.  She also enjoyed bridge, and formed many bridge clubs as she made more friends.  Betty was an active member of the First Christian Church for nearly fifty years.  She was President of her Sunday School Class numerous times, and founded the Double-Nickel Club, as you might guess, a requirement being fifty-five years of age.  The lively group shared trips, theatre, concerts, and always good food. Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, due to premature birth; a son, Alden Frances, age 25, due to an accident; her husband, Chester Otto, age 62; her parents; two brothers: Melvin and Hershell Kincaid; one sister, Oletha Berger; and one nephew, John Berger. Survivors include two sisters: Phyllis Hensley, Broken Arrow, OK, and Juanita Blubaugh, Burrton, KS; four nieces: Beverly Rose, San Antonio, TX, Kay Prentiss, Ft. Sumner, NM, Dixie Brown, Terre Haute, IN, and Barbara Travis, Broken Arrow, OK; eight nephews: Stanley Hensley, Chico, CA, Stephen Hensley, Texarkanas, TX, Calvin Hensley, Cassville, MO, Delmar Kincaid, Hutchinson, KS, Larry Kincaid, Hobb, NM, Douglas Berger, Plano, TX, V.J. Blubaugh, Hutchinson, KS, Mackey Kincaid, Colorado Springs, CO; 34 great and 38 great-great nieces and nephews.  She was dearly loved and will greatly missed by all. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Swan Law Funeral Home.  Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, First Christian Church, 16 E. Platte Ave., Colorado Springs, CO.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Betty Koerner memorial fund at First Christian Church or to the charity of the givers choice.

I have known Betty since 1961, and she was a wonderful lady. Her son and I were good friends, and she has now joined him in heaven, and what a reunion that will be. She loved him so. She was there for me during the passing of my father, and was a shoulder to cry on as we moved my Mom down to Texas, and I left Colorado Springs for the last time. She is now in the Lord's hands and am sure that she heard the words "Welcome thou good and faithful servant." Those of us who knew her were truly blessed.

Deepest sympathty for the loss of this wonderful lady. Our prayers are with the entire family. "May you find comfort and consolation in knowing that others care and share your sorrow." Betty will be missed by so many people. Her warm huggs, lovely smile and acceptance of "us" will be missed more than you'll ever know.

God has her in his arms.

Betty was a very kind and sweet lady. I only knew her for a short time but she was a nice friend.
