Betty Koopal Obituary

Betty, 77, of Johnston, Iowa; formerly of Colorado Springs; passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines. Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 4 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Betty Joan Koopal, daughter of John and Bessie (Herr) Madson, was born September 19, 1934 in Albert Lea, MN. She attended school in Austin, MN, and graduated in 1952. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary in an insurance agency until marrying John "Jack" Koopal. They were united in marriage on May 4, 1957 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Austin, MN. Betty's married life was spent focused on her family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, LeVerne; and her sister, Rose. Those left to remember Betty include her husband, Jack; her children: Steven (Debbie) of Scottsdale, AZ, Craig (Ann) of Urbandale, Susan (Steve) Krider of Norwalk, and Michael (Mae) of Columbia Falls, MT; and her eight grandchildren: Jacqueline, John, Zach, Aaron, Hannah, Gemma, Sarah and Case. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the Arthritis Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.merlehayfuneralhome.com
