Betty Lewis Obituary

Betty Ann Lewis of Colorado Springs passed away Monday September 19, 2011. Betty had recently moved to California to be close to family. She was born in Denver on October 2, 1924 to Angela and Lewis Smith. Betty grew up in Denver with her sister Dorothy and her brother Sam and was a graduate of Denver University with degrees in music and English. Betty Ann Smith married Fred Lewis in 1946 who was then an officer in the Navy. They enjoyed a rich life together living first in Denver, then in Germany, Washington DC and finally settling in Colorado Springs. In 1962 they had a son (Mark Steven Lewis). Betty had three strong passions in her life. She loved teaching and taught school for almost 30 years. There was nothing more rewarding for her than to have one of her former classmates say hello and tell her how she had changed their lives. She had a strong passion for music and continued to play the organ and piano throughout her life. She especially loved Jazz and had a real appreciation for composing. She also had a strong passion for her husband and family and would join in all of the varied hobbies that Fred would jump into. They especially enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at Horan & McConaty - Wadsworth, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, CO US 80227. Visitation and viewing will begin at 10:30am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. We will host a luncheon reception immediately following. Betty Ann will be buried at 1:30pm in the Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver next to her beloved Fred. Anyone who would like to join us for the burial is welcome. The address is 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, CO 80235. Betty Ann Lewis is survived by her son Mark Steven Lewis and his wife Lisa and grandchildren Jeff Lewis, Stephanie Lewis and Remie Stein.
