Betty Summers Obituary

On March 25, four days shy of her 91st birthday, Betty went to her eternal rest. She was born in Long Beach, CA, to Clifford S. and Jennie T. McCulloch. Spending her childhood

in southern California, she graduated from Anaheim Union High School. In 1942, she married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Summers.

After WW II, Chuck became an oral surgeon in the Army, and they were posted to several parts of California, Texas, Alaska (driving the Alcan Highway as it was being built!), Michigan, Illinois, Okinawa, Germany, and Colorado. Along the way, they raised six children.

Retiring first to Colorado Springs, they moved to Fort Collins in 1993. Betty had a life-long love of music, playing the accordion, piano,and organ, and singing in various choirs. Wherever they were stationed, she pursued educational opportunities (Betty was a highly intelligent and curious person, interested in all that could be learned) and was active in Officer's Wives Clubs. She became fascinated with genealogy and traced the family back to the Mayflower. She was also a member of DAR. Embracing the computer before it was common, she compiled numerous and extensive family trees

and published a McCulloch family newsletter.

She was a member of the Pikes Peak and Larimer County Genealogical Societies, giving workshops and teaching classes. She did wide-ranging research and was named to the Board of Certified Genealogists by Brigham Young University.

Betty loved travel, and visited Isreal, Denmark, the Netherlands, England, Greece, Hong Kong, the Phillipines, Japan, Australia, Figi, New Zealand, Hawaii, and indiginous

Alaska.

She also enjoyed quilting, camping and swimming, and was a Girl Scout leader. In her last years, she loved singing along to recorded music and watching the many birds at her feeder.

Those who crossed the threshold before Betty were her parents, her only brother, her husband Chuck, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a son-in-law.

She is survived by her six children, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Betty will be dearly missed by all her family.

Services will be be April 24 at the Allnut Drake Chapel, 650 W. Drake Rd. Viewing is at 8:30 am, with service at 9:30 am, followed by transport to Fort Logan National Cemetery

for interment.
