Beverly "Beth" Campbell

Beth Campbell was an active member of the Colorado Springs community since arriving in 2005 and loved its natural beauty. She participated in many community groups focusing on education, the arts, and spirituality. Known for her boundless energy and insatiable curiosity, she was a voracious reader who loved to cook, host family and friends, and take long walks. From books to frozen casseroles, she gave to others in times of celebration and grief. Active to the end, she died unexpectedly at age 72 due to complications from a fall. Beth was born in Shell Rock, Iowa to Carl and Lucille (Quass) Clemens. She earned degrees in education at Upper Iowa University (B.A.) and Drake University (M.S.), winning awards and scholarships. Prior to living in Colorado Springs, Beth lived and taught in Des Moines, Iowa and Fort Collins. She is survived by her sister, Carri Haumiller (Phil) of Jonesborough, Tennessee; her daughter, Anne (John Schaidler) of Monterey, California; and her son John Campbell (Amelia Piggott) of Denver. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Gregory and Brian Clemens. A small memorial is being held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Colorado Springs at 10 a.m. on July 30, 2022. Donations can be made to the church, the PILLAR Institute for Lifelong Learning, or the Pikes Peak Literacy Council.

Our prayers go out to Anne and John and to Carri. They have lost a mother and a sister. We have lost a beloved cousin. We cherish the memories we have of Bev/Beth, the times of her visits, her Christmas letters and phone conversations and the memories of our visit to her home in Colorado. She had planned to get together with us when Covid struck and pushed her visit aside. We did not know what a loss that would become. She showed what determination could accomplish and had an intellectual curiosity to pursue her interests and be a builder and contributor of her community. We share your grief and take joy in celebrating her life.
Know that we will transplant some volunteer tree seedlings that are doomed where they are now to better spots on our forest acreage. White Pine, Sugar Maple, Norway Spruce, and White Oak in her memory.
