Beverly Crockett Obituary

April 19, 1938 - January 11, 2009
Beverly A. Crockett fell asleep peacefully in the arms of her Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Bev was born to Anna (Volosin) and Mike Hlatki on April 19, 1938 on the family farm north of Calhan, Colorado. Her father and her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Anna (Volosin) Hlatki, her brother, Gerald (Myrle) Hlatki of Calhan and four sisters, Claudia (John) Curtis of Monte Vista, Roberta (Glenn) Walls and Pamela Hlatki of Denver, Karen (Joe) Sisneros of Colorado Springs, as well as a host of godchildren, relatives and friends. Beverly attended Excelsior, a one-room school and graduated from Calhan Union High School in 1956. From there she attended Colorado A & M (now Colorado State University), and later completed paralegal coursework at Pikes Peak Community College. Beverly began a Federal Service career at Ent Air Force Base n 1957 for the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), the Air Defense Command (ADC) and later worked for the North American Aerospace Defense Command. She was Executive Secretary to the Command Inspector General for NORAD, the United States Space Command, and Air Force Space Command and from 1986 to retirement was Executive Secretary to the Director of Plans for NORAD. The Commander of Chief of NORAD conducted a retirement and flag folding ceremony in honor of Beverly in 2003. She was presented the Distinguished Federal Career Award and gifts from the governments of the United States and Canada for her forty-seven years of service. Those whose lives were touched by "Little Beverly," as her father fondly called her, know that her strength and courage was grounded in the love of serving her God, her Church, her country, her community and her family. She dazzled and sparkled and her life is a precious reminder of God's love for his children. I worked with Bev for a number of years while she worked for NORAD. She was a shining light to all who knew her. Although her Lord has called her home, it was too soon and she will be sadly missed.
