Beverly Wasil

December 22, 1941

January 18, 2022

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Beverly Wasil. Bev was born in Cicero, IL to Chester and Cecelia Wasil and grew up in Oak Park, IL.

She attended Northern Illinois University and was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. A move to Colorado Springs after college in 1963 followed. She taught elementary school for 30 years in District 2, earning honors for her teaching. She had a high moral compass, promoting kindness and not tolerating bullying.

Bev loved international travel. There was a stint of exchange teaching in Australia. A trip to New Zealand was extended to 18 months of further travel where, when money became tight, she picked apples in New Zealand and drove a pedicab in Hawaii to make ends meet. Later travels, giving her much joy, were with sister Karen to Africa, Tahiti, New Zealand, France and most recently to the Czech Republic and Poland.

Bridge, modern art, film and solving puzzles were among her interests. Bev volunteered for hospice and the Democratic Party. Following her greatest passion, she volunteered for the Humane Society where she also fostered many dogs. She loved to socialize, enjoying coffee and meals with her friends.

She is survived by her loving partner Holly Mervis and Holly's family. Also by her sister Karen Pieranunzi, nieces Kristen Mologousis (Steve) and Alicia Vandeveer (Paul) and nephew Joe Pieranunzi (Maria.) And great nieces and nephews.

Bev will be profoundly missed by all who knew her for her smile, positive attitude, adventurous spirit and loving generosity. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer.

Miss Wasil always had the best projects for us! One of my favorites was putting together my human skeleton. We drew and cut and pasted and colored until we had a far semblance of a skeleton. What fun for second graders ~ she was the best teacher

Miss Wasil, not Ms.--I realized after my post that the Z sound in me head translated through my fingers to Ms.

Apologies to Miss Wasil's Holly for that oversight. Strength to you!

It was truly a pleasure having Bev as a friend and co- worker. Always a smile and positive attitude. Her love of animals, as well as friends was amazing. I will miss her wisdom and friendship! Love.

I was just today gushing about Ms. Wasil, my second grade teacher, who always made everything special and encouraged us to explore our natural world. I went back to see her at the end of my Senior year of High School and she remembered me like it was 1973. I will always remember you, Ms. Wasil! Love and Light
