Billie was born in Post, TX to James B. & Mildred (Martin) Sudbury. She is survived by William E. (Bill) Phifer, her husband of 66 years, children David V. Mathews & James D. (Georgette) Mathews of Colorado Springs, brothers Johnny (Soapy) Sudbury of Amarillo, TX & Sammy (Valerie) Sudbury of Woodstock, GA, sister Marilyn Tyler of Garland, TX, 6 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Kenneth Sudbury.
After growing up in the Texas panhandle, Billie fell in love and married Bill, an airman at Amarillo AFB & over the years the couple became affectionately known as "The Billie's". In 1957, life as a military wife took Billie to the Air Force Academy where she enjoyed nursing at the Air Academy hospital during its early years. In 1963 the family transferred to France, then 2 years later to England. Those were happy years spending time travelling much of Europe and collecting antiques. 1967 brought a move to So. California and 3 years later to Columbus, MS. After Bill retired from the Air Force, they opened and operated Hollydale Health Foods which is still operating today. In 1992 they retired in Durango, CO, enjoying life there until moving back to Colorado Springs in 2007.
Billie willl be remembered for her compassion, caring, love of life and family. She will be missed by her family and those who knew and loved her.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Air Academy cemetery on May 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm
