Bonniegail Coleman Obituary

Coleman
Bonniegail (Kucan) Coleman
August 17, 1941
June 1, 2022

Bonniegail Kucan Coleman was born on August 17, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio to John C. Kucan and Irene Stefan Kucan. She was raised in Weirton, West Virginia, among loving family and friends and kept abreast of community activities over the years.
She was the fourth woman to graduate from West Virginia University with a degree in physics. While there, she met her husband, Bill Coleman, who had been her lab instructor. They had been happily married for 58 years. They raised three children: Kammie King, Jeff (Evelyn) Coleman, and Ceanne Hamel. They are also grandparents to Kaila and Brayden Coleman and Parker and Avery Hamel.
She had been a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church where she was an active volunteer. She also belonged to a neighborhood Bible Study for over 30 years. Bonniegail belonged to the Colorado Springs Racquet Club where she made lifelong friends, and the Colorado Springs Country Club, where she was an avid bridge player, golfer, and tennis player. She was also an active WVU alumnus and she and Bill vacationed with alumni over the years. Bonniegail had been a realtor for 22 years, garnering many friendships throughout her career. She gave back to the community by being active in Partners in Housing— including conducting a first-time homebuyers program for several years—, Mothers of Preschoolers, the Assistance League, and donating to multiple charities and organizations.
During her lifetime, she also earned her teacher certification in Illinois and Colorado and acquired a series 6 license to sell investments in Colorado. Bonniegail began her world travels with her mother and was thrilled to fly on the Concorde and celebrated the 500th anniversary of Columbus' crossing with her on the Queen Elizabeth II. She continued traveling with Bill on many business trips and cruises, and vacations with friends. There were many trips taken with her children and grandchildren, too— complete with yearly visits to Breckenridge where they fished, golfed, and explored the town.
Bonniegail was a ray of sunshine, filled with joy each and every day. She was kind, honest, intelligent, a lifelong learner, a gracious hostess, and a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met. Family and friends were always her priority and her personal ministry was to uplift and encourage others. Bonniegail always had one goal: to inject happiness into those around her. She was truly a servant of God and enjoyed spreading happiness, encouragement, and random acts of kindness through letters, cards, and calls. Her laugh was infectious and filled the room. Bonniegail had limitless joy and lit up every life, and any room she walked into during her beautiful life. Bonniegail will be remembered by all who knew her whenever they hear a gregarious laugh or witness a radiating smile.
The funeral mass will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church on June 14th with a rosary at 9:15 and service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to partnersinhousing.org

I came to Colorado Springs in 1977 with my infant daughter in my arms. Bonniegail Coleman was the first person I met outside my family. She was a friend of my mother's, Rev. Madalyn de Grace. Bonniegail's light shined so brightly, she was a joy to know. I met her again almost 40 years later and loved seeing her weekly. I've known Bonniegail longer than anyone except my family members. She will always live in my heart.

I am so honored to have known Bonniegail, or, as I called her, "Mrs. Coleman" for so many years. She was always cheery, helpful, and kind. I am thankful my parents had such wonderful friends and neighbors too, over the years. She will be missed!
