Brad Peterson
July 30, 1949
December 15, 2024

Brad passed away on December 15, 2024 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on July 30, 1949 in Greeley, Colorado, Brad dedicated his life to music and teaching. He attended the University of Northern Colorado, earning a BA in Music Education and MA in Choral Literature and Conducting.
He retired from Colorado Springs School District 11 after 30 years of teaching: eight years at Irving Junior High School and 22 years at Mitchell High School as choral conductor/music chair. He served as chairman and adjudicator for Colorado All State Choirs, received honorable mention as Teacher of the Year and was the first winner of the Governor's Award for Excellence. In 2001, Brad was honored with the Distinguished Arts Educator Award.
Brad co-founded the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale in 1977 and directed their high school group from 1993-2017. Under his direction, the Summit Ensemble performed throughout the community and the state of Colorado, as well as at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Tours to Japan, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Italy and Australia introduced the Summit Ensemble to international audiences.
For nine years, Brad conducted the Colorado Springs community choir, Soli Deo Gloria, winner of the 2002 Colorado Springs Best in Classical Choral Performance award. He performed professionally with Abendmusik (founding member) and Denver's Cherry Creek Chorale and toured Europe with William Hall's Master Chorale and the Colorado Ambassadors of Music.
Brad is survived by his wife and soulmate Colleen of Colorado Springs. Together, they enjoyed making music, travel, cooking, wine and sharing time with friends and family.
No celebration of life service is planned. Please consider honoring Brad with a donation to the arts organization of your choice.

I learned so much from Mr Pete! His college-prep theory and ear training practically gave me a year off in music school. I know his voice and heart will be missed.

Mr Pete you were a blessing to music and to your many students over the years. I had the joy of singing at Irving in both concert choir and Madrigals. I have so many cherished memories of those years. Thank you from all of us. RIP
