Staff Sgt. Brian L. Morris

Brian L. Morris Obituary

Brian L. Morris got a lot more than poultry when he took a job at a KFC restaurant. It was there that he met his wife. "He got a job there and I got a job there and the rest is history," Lori Morris said with a chuckle. "It's not one of those romantic places, but we've got our KFC story." Morris, 38, of Centreville, Mich., died Aug. 21 when his vehicle rolled over in Mosul. Morris joined the Army after graduating from high school in 1985, where he was a star cross-country runner. When he returned years later to speak to students, he had transformed from athlete to military man, said Coral Fry, Morris' former English teacher. Fry remembered Morris as "one of the nicest, most gentlemanly students" she ever had. A bout with testicular cancer forced Morris into temporary retirement from the Army in 1989. He re-enlisted and served in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Germany and South Korea. He also is survived by a 5-year-old daughter, Emilee. "She was daddy's girl," Lori Morris said. "She is daddy's girl. We're so proud of him. He worked so hard."

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Morris Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

HI BRIAN, IT'S BEEN SO LONG. I SOMETIMES FEEL BAD FOR NOT THINKING OF YOU MORE OFTEN THAN I DO. WHENEVER I VISIT YOUR GUEST BOOK AND READ ALL THE KIND MESSAGES SENT TO YOU, IT MAKES ME REALIZE THAT LIFE REALLY IS A VERY PRECIOUS THING, TO BE CHERISHED AND LIVED TO THE FULLEST EACH AND EVERY DAY. NONE OF US ARE PROMISED A TOMORROW AND AFTER WE ARE GONE THE ONLY THING WE LEAVE BEHIND FOR OTHERS TO APPRECIATE ARE THEIR THOUGHTS AND MEMORIES OF US. MOST TIMES WE NEVER REALIZE HOW MUCH WE INFLUENCE THOSE AROUND US BY THE WAY WE ACT TOWARD OTHERS AND THE WAY WE CARRY OURSELVES. YOU LEFT A LARGE IMPRINT IN MY LIFE AND I NEVER SHARED THAT WITH YOU, FOR THAT I WILL ALWAYS BE SORRY. YOU TAUGHT ME A LOT ABOUT LIFE AND FAMILY. YOU ARE DEARLY MISSED MY GOOD FRIEND. WE WILL BE TOGETHER AGAIN ONEDAY MY FRIEND.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Brian, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

You are remembered and respected. Thank you Staff Sgt Morris!

August 1, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

It's a shame when we lose someone that we love. Sometimes the only thing that keeps us going is knowing that they are in a better place and someday we might get a chance to meet up with them again.
God bless all the soliders who are fighting for freedom and our country. God bless America.

Hey Big B-

Yesterday was a special day in the life of your beautiful daughter, Emilee. She is 6 years old today. Aunt Natalie and I called her to wish her a very special Happy Birthday. What a wonderful little daughter you have. I am so excited about Lori and Emilee moving back to CO. I know that I can never replace you (and I certainly don’t want to) but I am going to do all that I can to help out my big sister and my only niece. I can’t imagine what they go through on a daily basis. That is why I lift them up in prayer every day. It’s selfish of me, but I miss you very much. However, I can rejoice knowing that, like Ozzy Osbourne’s “See You On The Other Side”, I will see you again.

You are a true American solider and I am so proud of what you were doing for us. I think that Toby Keith’s “American Solider” lyrics sum up your 18 ½ years in the Army.

I’v
e posted my favorite picture that I have with you and me in it. It’s from July 24, 2004 when you, Sarah, Tyler, and I were baptized in the Arkansas River west of the Royal Gorge Bridge outside Canon City, CO. I will never forget that day. I didn’t think about it at the time, but I know in my heart that this day was just another step that God had for us to prepare for you going home to Him. Although I still grieve, I am comforted to know that you have been taken to our Eternal Home. It was a true blessing to stand beside you after we proclaimed our faith in our Lord and Savior.

I love and miss you Terminator.

Your brother-in-law and brother-in-Christ,

Tom Gugliuzza-Smith

Brian, We miss you. We will never forget the times we spent together in Germany and Colorado. Remember the time we went on the "Religious Retreat" to Paris after our tour in Bosnia? We had a really good time and have pictures to remember you and Lori by. Or how about the time we went to see the "Shroud of Jesus"? I remember you kept saying the signs pointing us to the church where it was, looked like a crushed beer can. We all got a kick out of that. We truly enjoyed your company. I was glad to have you as a TC in Bosnia (most other people drove me crazy) and as a friend in life. RIP my friend. You are dearly missed!

Dear Brian,

Today is your birthday and you have always been my big brother. Whenever my birthday rolled around, I cherished a few short months that you were only one year older than I was. Then October 8 would come and you would gain another year on me! Growing up with me couldn't have been easy. I was bossy and demanding as only a little sister could be. However, you never complained, you simply took everything in stride and forgave all I dished out. Then you went one step further and loved me anyway. You were my one constant that never changed in a world that frequently did. I depended on you and I love you with a heart that is breaking. Happy Birthday big brother, your little sister, Sherry

To Brian's Family and Friends

I Don't know what to say about this loss, I have known Brian for a long time. The man had a great appreciation for life and love and liberty. I hope that in his short life, he has loved his family and friends with the same conviction that he showed in giving his life for our liberty and the liberty of others.

I was looking forward to our class reunion this year. I was hoping to see him again and meeting his wife and family and showing off mine.

I haven't seen him since school. This is a great loss to us. I will miss you Brian and so will the whole class of ---"85"--- My you recieved great gifts in heavan for your work on earth..My God Bless you and your family... Rest in Peace, Your work is done...
