Bruce Armstrong Obituary

Bruce E. Armstrong, 71, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1973, passed away on November 25, 2012, after more than five weeks in Penrose Main Hospital. No specific cause could be found except "degenerative brain disease." Bruce was born on October 16, 1941, to H. Kenneth and Edith Armstrong in Greensburg, PA. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; three children - Rebecca, Steven, and David, all whose permanent residence is in Colorado Springs; three granddaughters - Stephanie, Jennifer, and Anna of Colorado Springs; and three brothers - Kenneth of Jeannette, PA, Terry of Simpsonville, SC, and Danny of Irwin, PA. After high school, Bruce served in the Air Force for four years. He then went to Penn State for four years and got a computer science degree. After graduation Bruce worked one year for the Penn State Library before coming to Colorado Springs to work in the computer department at the Navigator headquarters. Bruce loved computer work and got one of the first home computers. He has worked at CF& I Steel, Digital, MCI, David C. Cook, and the Christian & Missionary Alliance headquarters, doing computer work at each of them. Amidst other work he set up and did all the legal and financial work for Grace Academy Homeschooling Inc. from 1993-2003. Underlying all he did was a deep love for Christ, so his favorite work ended up being the work he did in the Archives department at C& MA. He had a passion for the message getting out around the world that Jesus is the Saviour for all who come to Him and believe. Bruce and Mary Lou enjoyed camping and often camped while their children were growing up. Otherwise, Bruce was very much a home body, enjoying his children and grandchildren. Bruce was a life-long learner. He always had a book he was reading. He learned much from science and history channels and computer searches. His favorite book was the Bible which he read daily. Bruce's body was donated to ScienceCare to be used for research, in the hope that others may be helped from what is learned. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM on December 20, 2012, at the Village Seven Presbyterian Church, 4055 Nonchalant Circle South.

Mary Lou, Becky, Steven, David; our prayers are with you. Many are our memories of your family and the joy we shared together in camping and water skiing, or snow skiing. Bruce always had a wise word when you asked. And his laugh made me laugh! It has been a gift knowing you all. We look forward to seeing Bruce again in the Kingdom. Praying for you that the Lords comforting hand will be upon you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce was an "encourager" and gentle soul. I enjoyed working with him at The Alliance and will miss him very much.

As a coworker at the C&MA I appreciated Bruce's quiet demeanor, consistent presence, and the twinkle of his eye when we passed in the halls. His prayer life was evident when during chapel times his quiet nature was shed as he petitioned God for the work of the C&MA. This was quite a shock. He will be missed!

Oh, Mary Lou, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your children and grandchildren in this difficult time. What a great blessing you and Bruce were to our family at Grace Academy. What a comfort to know that Bruce is with the Lord, but also what a loss of physical presence and companionship. I will be praying for you.
