Bruce Del Porte Obituary

Bruce Noel Del Porte, a resident of Colorado Springs for 15 years, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, peacefully in his home. He was a retired engineer who worked as a Program Manager in the semi-conductor and aerospace industries.

Bruce was born on June 27, 1955 to Karl Del Porte and Natalie (Hasbrook) Del Porte in Joliet, Illinois.

Throughout his life, Bruce enjoyed the Colorado outdoors, photography and live music. He was an award winning animator. As a Program Manager, he was very proud of his work on several space programs. He was generous with his time and created a college scholarship program at his alma mater, Stevens Institute of Technology. Even though Bruce was a private man, he had many loyal and longtime friends.

He is survived by his brothers: Michael (Sharon) Del Porte, Scott (Jean) Del Porte, Tom (Mercedes) Del Porte; his sister, Lynn Del Porte; his nephew, Michael; and nieces: Kimberly and Sofia; and his companion, Gloria Crossett.

A memorial service will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., on June 20 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. with a eulogy at 4:00 p.m. A celebration will follow at the "Hotel Bar" at The Broadmoor.

I remember our last times together. After 3 years of retirement, Bruce asked me to help him at Allied Signal for 6 months. It wound up being for two and a half years, but it was a fun job. I again realized Bruce's great talents. We even discovered the LaFayette Brew Pub together. I only saw Bruce a few times after the Allied Signal project, but I still have fond memories. When us old Westinghouse guys get together we still recall Bruce stores.
Still miss you Bruce.

He was a bonafide rocket scientist. He was a great teacher of life. He lived his bucket list for the past fifty years... he was the one who took the brunt of our parents' mistakes in their early parenting career... He knew how to eat and drink... he was loved and loved. He was an enigma and spent much of his life living a classified life... He drove a corvette, lived in new york city, wore loose shoes and loved the prurient as well as the classics. He was someone to look up to as well as allowed you to shine. He knew math like very few. He animated movies and read and read... There was little he couldn't hold his own on... except melanoma... read the comments. they are telling. Thanks Bruce!

I met Bruce when he first started working in the Failure Analysis Lab at Westinghouse. He was always fun to be around and had a great sense of humor. I was sorry to hear about his passing.

I will always remember Bruce as a person who kept a sense of proportion. His office at Westinghouse had a Bart Simpson poster saying "Don't have a cow, man." I will always remember him as someone of unfailing good cheer and someone who knew not to sweat the small stuff.

Though it has been many years, I have fond memories of the good times I shared with Bruce both on a personal and professional level. He was my mentor very early in my career and I learned much from him. He taught me the 4 most important words to use on a business trip; "I'll have the lobster!" Good 'ol Brucey. You will be missed.

I have lost a great friend. Bruce worked for me at Westinghouse and later I worked for him at Allied Signal. Through it all we remained great friends. I will always remember our "Staff meetings" at the Kings Head restaurant in Santa Monica.
Bruce will be missed.

Bruce, you were a great man, a fabulous boss, and a true friend during our 5 years together at Allied Signal. You were always "calm, cool, and collected"; even under the stress of supporting deliveries for the International Space Station Program. Those 5 years were not only the most professionally rewarding, but also the most fun of my career. We sure new how to travel then; safe journey now! Thanks for the memories!

Bruce, your presence will be missed. As your old friends and colleagues talk about you, they have only wonderful words of compassion, generosity, and praise. You touched us all during your life and we are better for it.
