Bruce Pattee Obituary

Bruce Alden Pattee passed away peacefully at home with his much beloved wife, Lynn, by his side. We know he is now with the Lord and his son, Jim, who preceded him in death, along with sister, Beth Ward, father and mother, Dr. George and Isabelle Pattee.

Bruce was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and spent the majority of his youth in Denver, graduating from East High School before heading to Hanover, New Hampshire to Dartmouth College. While there, he studied Chemistry and Zoology as an undergraduate and completed his first two years of medical school. After an August wedding in Colorado in 1955, Bruce and Lynn set out for Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he spent seven of the next nine years in medical school, internship, residency and an additional year in cardiology. For two years, Bruce served in the United States Navy as Chief Medical Officer at the Naval Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1964, Bruce and Lynn arrived in Colorado Springs with their family where Bruce first set up his own practice in internal medicine and cardiology. In 1969, he joined Robert Stafford, MD and Raymond Wahl, MD to form Associates in Internal Medicine, PC. The group later became the founding members of the Penrose-St. Francis Medical Group in 1994. During his more than 40 years in practice, Bruce served as Chief of Staff at Penrose Hospital and held leadership roles in various organizations, including the Clinical Club and El Paso County Medical Society. He was Instructor at both Michigan and Colorado Schools of Medicine and in 1977 was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. After retirement, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Odyssey Hospice.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bruce revelled in family gatherings and kept in touch with cousins and dear friends. He shared countless laughs with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow. He also loved the outdoors and the Colorado mMountains, and was an active cyclist, skier, and adventurer, both domestically and abroad.

Bruce was a man of integrity and quiet faith. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He is survived by his wife, Lynn (Peterson) Pattee; children Mark (Kristin Matta) Pattee; Jim's widow, (Sharon) Pattee; Tom (Susan) Pattee; Anne (Phil) DeVries; and grandchildren Garrett, Kellyn; Shawn, Michael, Steven; Andrew, Katherine; Jenny and Charley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Springs Rescue Mission or Pikes Peak Area Young Life.

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 26, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.

Dear Lynn, Mark, Sharon, Tom, Anne and families. I came over to visit mom tonight and she told me of Dr. Bruce's passing. I'm sorry not to have reached out sooner but simply did not know. Bruce was an awesome man. Great doctor, friend, and neighbor. One of the truly great men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We were all blessed to have known him. He is with Jim and Our Lord now. I hope they are skiing together in Heaven! Blessings on all of you. Steve Hilbert

Dear Lynn and Family,
Jack and I were sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. He and Jack were in the
class of '54 at Dartmouth. We saw him occasionally at social functions and would wind up talking about Dartmouth. He has found a bigger Green now.
You have our thoughts and prayers.

So sad to learn of Dr. Pattee's passing. He was our family doctor for a long time. My first introduction to him was a house call - a lot of years ago. He sill be missed by all. God bless.

A great man and a credit to our profession. Medicine has lost one of its role models. I am fortunate to have been able to work with him and count him as a friend and colleague. As a son of Dartmouth, I will miss him but wish him a hearty "Wah Hoo Wah" and know the he will forever hear the "Vox Clamatis in Deserto."

I have many fond memories working with Dr. Pattee at Penrose Hospital, my deepest sympathy

August 23, 2016

When The Associates in Internal Medicine opened their doors in 1969 I went to work for them as their receptionist. Eight years later I moved on taking with me the deepest regard for the Associates personally and professionally. Dr. Pattee stood tall as a man, and not less so as a caring friend and most effective physician. I know this is a great loss for his family and friends who have my deep sympathy.

What a dear man and awesome doctor. He took care of me and many of my family members for years....Mayasa (my other mother) worked for him for years and I will let her know of his death. My Mom was head nurse on Intensive Care and Coronary Care for many years and thought the world of him as well. Such a great man....God give him peace!

Dr. Pattee was my doctor for many years. I was forced to scold him when I learned that he was going to retire. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always a delight to visit for my yearly checkups. He will be missed.

I have so many wonderful memories of my dear cousin, Bruce, from the time we were toddlers in his sandpile in Denver, to riding a burro (with his long legs dragging on the ground!) at LaHuerta in high school, and throughout the years with his wonderful wife, Lynn, at their home in the hills above the Springs. Rest in peace, my wonderful cousin. We shall miss you! Love always, Pattee (Kenyon) Williams
