Carl Bang Obituary

LTC Carl John Bang, Jr., USAF (Ret.) passed away Friday, May 25, 2007. A resident of Colorado Springs since 1986, he died at the age of 60 at a local hospital after a brief battle with Lymphoma. He was retired from the Air Force and employed at Northrop Grumman in the US Civil Service at Schriever Air Force Base. Carl was born to Carl John and Helen (Chepko) Bang in Staten Island, NY on May 8, 1947. He graduated from Tottenville High School in Staten Island, attended Cornell University in New York, and graduated from the USAF Academy in 1970. He married Barbara Ruth Bushey on June 6, 1970 in Cascade, Colorado. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his mother; his son, "C.J." (wife, Lindsay) Bang III of Fort Collins; 2 daughters, Jennifer Bang of Denver, and Jackie (husband, Travis) Ekenberg of Colorado Springs; a brother, Stephen (wife, Kim) Bang of Milan, New York; and a sister, Mary Levitt of Dalton, Massachusetts. He also has a granddaughter, Breck. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Wednesday at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Graveside services with Air Force Honors will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the USAFA Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, (4925 N. Carefree Circle). Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, (1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York, 10605,) or to the Association of Graduates at the Air Force Academy, (3116 Academy Drive, USAFA, Colorado 80840. www.usafa.org - select Alumni.)
