Carl Kindsfater Obituary

Carl Kindsfater, 90, passed away in Colorado Springs on January 5, 2009. Born in Hastings, Nebraska to the late Johannes and Anna Marie (Sittner) Kindsfater, Carl proved to be a devoted son, husband, father, friend and community steward. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Arlene (Harkins) Kindsfater on May 20, 1998 and all siblings, John, Catharina, Elizabeth, Amelia, Jacob, George and Edward. He is survived by his children, Kenneth (Trudy) of Camarillo, California, Richard (Mary Ellen) of Beaufort, South Carolina, David Kindsfater of Colorado Springs and Kathy (Kindsfater) Freeland of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Kenneth Kindsfater II, Sara Kindsfater, Tara (Freeland) (Kel) O'Neil and Gregory (Stephanie) Freeland II; one great-grandchild, Jaron Freeland and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was especially proud of his service during WWII with the 8th Army Air Corp., 491st Bomb Group in England and working with the B-24 Liberator aircraft. Carl worked in Civil Service at the Air Force Academy from 1959 until his retirement. He will be remembered for his long service with the Security Lions Club where he was presented with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his dedication to humanitarian services. A long-time resident of the Fountain Valley area, Carl was a kind, sincere and devoted man whose smiling face brought joy to all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held January 8th from 4-7pm at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 S. Hwy 85/87, Fountain, CO. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 9th, 1pm at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Dr., Security, CO. Interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. David - I did not know your father but if he was your dad he had to have been a very good man. What a lovely and very special obit in the paper - I was touched.
