Carl Thornton Obituary

Carl Kelly Thornton July 14, 1947 - Oct 30, 2007. Carl Kelly Thornton, of Colorado Springs passed away on October 30, 2007. He was 60 years old. Mr. Thornton was born July 14, 1947 to Amy & Walter Thornton in the town of Browntown, Alabama. The Thornton Family moved to Birmingham, AL where Carl spent his childhood and adolescence. Upon graduating from High School, Carl enlisted in the US Army in 1965. He later served in Vietnam in 1966. Carl relocated to Colorado Springs in 1971. He immediately fell in love with the city. He never left the city unless military duties called. In 1985, he retired from the military. In 1986, he joined the civil service with assignments at Ft. Carson, Fitzsimmons, Peterson AFB and Rocky Flats. Carl was a devoted husband, father and member of Friendship Baptist Church. Carl is survived by his wife, Janie Thornton; two sons, Kerry Wilkens & Carl Thornton, Jr; step-daughter, Racheal Weldy and numerous friends & family. Visitation will from 5pm until 7pm, Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Swan-Law Funeral Home. The funeral will be 9am, Friday, November 2 at Friendship Baptist Church, 633 E. Dale in Colorado Springs. Interment will be held 12:30 pm at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
