Carmella M. "Sunny" Devers

Carmella Devers Obituary

Carmella M. "Sunny" Devers passed away on Friday, September 22, 2006, she was 83 years old. Sunny was a Colorado Springs resident since 1972. She was a military wife and lived in the Philippines, Hawaii and at numerous Air Force bases in the US. She was born January 21, 1923 to Bernard and Valeria Gilsdorf in Burns, WY., and was one of ten children. The farm where she was raised in Ft. Collins was eventually replaced by Colorado State University. On August 11, 1942 Sunny married Samuel C. Devers; they were married for 62 years and had four children together. Sunny was a bowler, seamstress, enjoyed sewing and playing softball, and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church since 1972. Sunny was a homemaker and, during WWII she did her part as a Crew Leader making B-25 airplanes to help in the war effort. Sunny is survived by her three sons: Ken of Colorado Springs, Don of Alexandria, VA and Tom of Colorado Springs; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and six brothers and sisters. Her husband Samuel, son Jerry and four siblings preceded her in death. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsetta Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
