Carmen Pesek, 92, passed away peacefully on August 25 at Memorial Hospital. A no frills woman, she requested a celebration of life not take place. The family will attend her beloved Sunday breakfast at the Cheyenne Mountain VFW Post 3917. Please make any donations in her name to that VFW Post.
Born in Anamosa, Iowa on September 1, 1932, Carmen graduated from Springville High School and married Stanley Pesek on April 28, 1951. She spent 74 years as a homemaker, military spouse, volunteer for the veteran community, and part time card shark (kidding!). After many years of traveling around the U.S. and to Germany with the Army, they settled down in Colorado Springs in 1991. Carmen is known for her dedication to her community, including more than 30 years of volunteer work at the VFW Post 3917. She served at the Post as a charter member, Auxiliary President for several years, and Secretary Treasurer for Pikes Peak Veteran's Council. Up until her death, she was a faithful volunteer of the Sunday breakfasts.
Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley. She is survived by her children, Sam and Amy Pesek, and her grandchildren Jennifer Pesek and Michelle Kelly. Carmen will be remembered for her strong friendships, love of her family and of veterans, and for her ability to beat anyone at Canasta. Her laughter and kindness were a gift to all who knew her.
