Carol Boyles Obituary

Carol passed away in her home in Colorado Springs on September 3, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Weiser, Idaho, to George and Bernice Bogart, Carol was the second of four children. When Carol was two, the family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Three years later, they moved to Casper, Wyoming, where they made their home. Carol married Billy Boyles in 1971 and they had a daughter, Molly Belinda Boyles. Carol embraced motherhood with a passion. Anyone who ever met her knew within mere moments that Molly was the light of Carol's life. Although Carol and Billy divorced, they remained good friends. Carol shared ten years of her life with John Olson and his sons, Gregg (Kizmi) and Oren. They remained close until the end of her life. . Carol moved to Colorado Springs in 1984 and for the next 18 years, worked as a legal assistant/office manager for several law firms in Colorado Springs, including Holland and Hart, Sherman & Howard, and Hogan & Hartson. She was the executive assistant to Scott Blackmun at the US Olympic Committee. At the time of her death, she was the executive assistant to Karl Stressman, commissioner of the Proffessional Rodeo Cowboys Association. In her eight years with teh PRCA, Carol became known as the heart of the organization. She took great pride in her work and was the mainstay for several PRCA commissioners, including Troy Ellerman. Carol's family extends their deepest appreciation and gratitude for the generosity and kindness that everyone at the PRCA, especially Karl Stressman and Shelley Warner, has provided. Carol's mom once told her she was born under a bright star. But Carol's own light shined so bright and constant that she could only be a sun herself. Her determination to live according to her own values encouraged everyone around her to join the struggle to be their best. In this way, and with her hilarious personality, she literally changed lives everywhere she went. Like a sun, her light goes on and on; it is we who must wait through the starry night to see her once again. Carol was the light and laughter of all our lives, and how she loved to dance! Carol was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her daughter Molly Boyles, brother Darrel (Beverly) Bogart, sisters Sally Moon and Nancy (Jarvis) Barlow; nieces Sherri Lynn Jones, Terri Ann (Derek) Joyner, Barbie Ann (Gary) Haeck, LeShawn Carey, Brandi (Zack) Morgan, Wendie (Pedro) Mendoza; nephews Fred Moon, Dan Bogart, and Brent (Kelly) Moon; grandnieces Becky Ackerman, Mary Jo Bogart, Ashley Bogart, Sara Moon, Delaney Carey, and Paige Haeck; grandnephews Eddie Ackerman (Nikki), C.J. Jones, Danual Moon, Garret Haeck, Dustin Bogart, Dalton Bogart, and Indy Moon; and great grandnieces Alana Ritchie and Carol Rose Ackerman. A memorial service will be held September 19, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, 101 ProRodeo Drive, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, and at Carol's request, donations may be made to the 1400s, 704 Burke Blvd., Devils Lake, ND 58301.

My deepest sympathies to all of Carol's family, especially Molly and Carol's siblings. Carol and her family extended a welcoming heart and hand to me when I first arrived in Colorado in 1995. I will never forget arriving in Colorado Springs to work as a temp at Hogan & Hartson, meeting a young woman from Europe traveling through the US on the bus on the way down, and Carol not only giving this additional stranger a lift to the hostel where she was staying, but brought the traveler to her home for dinner with us. She fed me, housed me, and, of course, took my recently healing body (knee surgery) dancing at her favorite spots (I've always loved dancing, too). I met her family and friends, and found a generous and loving sister. Oh, my, how she could tell stories and make us all laugh. I only was able to spend short periods of time with her but they were always precious and meaningful. Her spirit lives in us all.
