Carol Conner Obituary

Carol Craft Conner, 85, died December 1, 2005 at a local care center. She was born July 16, 1920 in Malvern, Iowa to Stewart S. and Helen Mann Craft Foster. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She was married July 22, 1943 in Omaha, NE to Jack K. Conner, who survives. Carol has been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1951. She is also survived by two daughters: Jill Hartley (and Don) of Rock Springs, WY; and Ann Johnson (and Kent) of Buena Vista, CO; four grandsons: Cody Hartley, Ph.D, of Santa Barbara, CA; Kyle Johnson (and Jennifer) of Aurora, CO; John Hartley (and Heidi) of Rock Springs, WY; and Karl Johnson (and Kaylee) of Manhattan, KS; and one great-grandson Max Johnson of Aurora, CO. Carol was a free-lance artist, writer and published poet. She was a 46-year member of the Pikes Peak Branch of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW). She was a 66-year member of PEO in Chapter CE in Colorado Springs (and former member of Chapter DO in Sidney, Iowa). Carol can trace her roots back to the Mayflower and her great great-grandfather, Asahel Mann, Sr. was a Fremont County, Iowa pioneer. Her great-grandfather was in the Fourth Iowa Calvary in the Civil War and Carol inherited his love for horses. She loved to ride, paint and spend time with horses. Carol celebrated her 62nd wedding anniversary and a beautiful marriage in July 2005 with the husband, Jack, she married during World War II when he was home on leave from the Air Force. She was a steadfast and loving wife, mother and friend. Her twinkling blue eyes and witty sense of humor endeared her to many and her sensitive poetry and paintings are a poignant legacy for all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2005, Grace Episcopal Church, St. Stephens Chapel, 601 N. Tejon, Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace and St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
