Carol Perry Obituary

Carol Lynn Perry, 62, of Ellijay, died Jan. 21, 2026, at her home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1963, to the late Philip Cox Perry II and Betty Jo Simmons Perry.
She graduated from Campbell High School, received an AFA Fine Arts from Reinhardt College and a BA English/International Relations from Oglethorpe University.
She received the Sidney Lanier Poetry Award twice, wrote for both the Reinhardt and Oglethorpe newspapers and literary magazines and served an internship as a staff writer at the Southern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments.

She spent the majority of her career as a technical writer, working for Leader Systems, Prentice Hall, PACS Software, American Book Company and Call Center Technologies.

After moving back to Ellijay, she worked as an English teacher at Darrington Academy, Gilmer County Family Connection, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ellijay and, most recently, as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker High Country Reality.

She wrote a weekly column, Lynn's Zen, for several small newspapers and magazines in the north Georgia area, including the Times-Courier in Ellijay and Mountain Peeks magazine based out of Kennesaw.

She is survived by her daughter, Hannah Chambers; mother, Betty Jo Simmons Perry; sister Cindy Perry Corn; and nephews Benjamin and Miles Corn.

A service of memory will be held at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made to The Gilmer Community Food Pantry in lieu of flowers. The family also requests no food, but would appreciate a note with a favorite memory of Lynn instead.

Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay is entrusted with these arrangements.
