Carol Sanders Obituary

Carol Sanders beloved wife of J.W. Sanders passed on to the hands of The Lord on May 10, comfortably in her own home surrounded by her family. Carol was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Genevieve and Charles Sukowatey. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Both she and JW were teachers in the Chicago area. They were set up on a blind at the Palmer House Hotel which JW says lasted 52 years. They were married on December 29, 1962 while living in Highland Park, Illinois. They then relocated to Charleston, Illinois where she received her Masters Degree at Eastern Illinois University and her Doctorate from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her final occupation before retiring was as Vice President at Lakeland College, in Mattoon, Illinois.

She is survived by her loving husband J.W., her three daughters Catherine (Ty) Rowe of Auburn, CA, Lynn Cash of Colorado Springs, and Mary Sanders-Hamilton (Eric) of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She is also survived by her sisters Helen Johannes, Alice Prahl, Barbara Theil, and brother Jerry Sukowatey. She was preceded in death by her brother Anthony Sukowatey

She was the very proud grandmother of 5 grandchildren, Sky Mae and Austin Cash, and Krystyn, Nathyal, and Krystopher Rowe. They were the lights of her life, and kept her on her toes.

Carol was an active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, she volunteered at their local soup kitchen, which bought her great joy! She was an avid golfer, (with the only hole in one in the family), belonged to a weekly hiking club, book club, CASA, hiked to the top of Pikes Peak and to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Against JW's wishes, she went skydiving on her 65th birthday. She loved to travel, dine and taste wine with her Ladies of the Grape. She was blessed by so many friends, from her childhood, be it personal or professional, had an amazing group of friends in the Colorado Springs area since she and JW relocated for a final time. She will be missed, but remain indelibly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday May 14, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. Immediately upon completion of the mass we would like to welcome you to join us for a lunch buffet at Garden of the Gods Club at 3320 Mesa Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to a charity of your choice. Some of Carol's favorites are www.pikespeakhospice.org, www.casappr.org, www.lakeland.cc.il.us
