It saddens us to announce the recent death, at 96, of Carol H. Thompson; a retired homemaker and sixty-eight year resident of El Paso County. She was in hospice care at the time of her departure.

Carol was the second of three children born to Marie and Amos Hansen of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following her graduation from high school in 1943, she attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and found employment after WWII as a telephone operator and as a secretary in the municipal office of the neighboring city of Waterloo. In 1946, Carol was united in marriage to Wayne C. Thompson of Waterloo after his return from military service in Italy and his discharge from the 91st Division of the U. S. Army. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1953 and eventually made a new home for themselves in Skyway.

In addition to her responsibilities as a parent, Carol worked as an office temp for the Teamsters Union, and, over the years, served as a volunteer for the Cub Scouts, Penrose Hospital, and the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. She played the accordion and piano, and, with the aid of periodic lessons, enjoyed watercolor painting.

Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Hansen, in 1988, her brother-in-law, George Clark, in 1995, and her husband, in 2007.

She is survived by two sons; David, of Monument,CO, and Gary (Lynn), of Mt. Joy, PA, three grand-daughters; Taryn (Rory) Tiedge, Allison (Clifford) DiGregorio, and Shea Thompson (Austin Hardin), and three great-grandchildren, all of Orange County, CA. Other survivors include her sister, Eloise Clark, of Colorado Springs,CO, and Patricia Hansen of Issaquah, WA.

As a wife and mother, Carol gave to us as much of herself as she had to give. She will always be remembered for her selfless commitment to our family by the way of our expressions of admiration, gratitude, and love.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, at 10:00 AM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs, CO.
Inurnment will follow at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bristol Hospice/Colorado Springs, or any charity of the donor's choice.
