Caroline Drewes Obituary

Sue Drewes, age 72, passed away on May 3, 2016 at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Caroline Sue Gelsinger was born on July 16, 1943 in Fayette County, Illinois to the late Pearl and Glovina (Augustine) Gelsinger.

She attended school in Vandalia, Illinois and later married Gerald "Gerry" L. Drewes on January 1, 1961 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois.

Together, they raised a family and Sue provided daycare for many children through the years and eventually retired from Checks Unlimited.

She, with her husband, was a model railroader and active in Youth In Model Railroading.

She was a gold prospector and a member and two time president of The Gold Prospectors of Colorado; as well as, Colorado State Champion Gold Panner for a number of years.

They were longtime members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Sue is survived by her beloved husband, Gerry; her two daughters, Teresa Drewes and Christina (Chris) Kiefer; her five grandchildren, Gerald Godbold, Elyssa (Jesse) Robbins, Charles Godbold, Shauna Mackey and Christopher Kiefer; and three great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her three sisters, Linda (Ed) Morgan of Bradenton, Florida, Sharon (Bill) Springer of Effingham, Illinois and Jerri (Don) Schumard of Monticello, Illinois.

Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.

A luncheon reception will follow the service in Hillard Hall at the Church.

Memorials may be made in her name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

She was a beautiful woman of strength and character and will be best remembered as the very center of her cherished family.

She will be deeply missed.
