Catherine Maxwell Obituary

Wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Catherine T. Maxwell went home to be with the lord peacefully on October 27, 2016. She was born on November 15, 1927, and was the third of nine children born to the late Reverend George H. Stokes and Hester B. Stokes of Savannah, GA. She graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School in Savannah, GA in 1946 and she married her beloved husband Edgar J. Maxwell, on June 8, 1946, he proceeded her in death. They had three children and traveled all over the united states with the military. She has been a resident of Colorado Springs, CO for 39 years.

She is survived by son Isaiah Maxwell of St Louis, Mo; daughters Sharon Maxwell and Michelle (James) Taylor of Colorado Springs, CO; sister Dorothy Jackson of Savannah, GA; Grandchildren: Shontay Shearer, Madonna Church, Melvina Maxwell, Sean Garrett, Alvin Taylor, Adrian Taylor, and Jamison Taylor; eight Great grandchildren, 1 Great-great grandchild and many other beloved relatives and friends. Catherine touched everyone she met with her love, prayers and through her strong faith in God. She was a long time member of the Catholic church at Soldiers Memorial Chapel, Fort Carson, CO and very active in the church and Military Council of Catholic Women. She was an active member of the Red Hatters club and the Military Widows club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, doll making, volunteering, and most of all spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face, a great sense of humor, and a prayer or kind word for everyone.

Love, compassion, care, generosity and discipline, all these attributes that a mother possesses can all be summed up in one person, her name, our mother, Catherine Theresa Maxwell. She will always be in our hearts and memories forever on earth and now in heaven. We will miss her beautiful smile and constant loving care forever.

A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 pm at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors at 1104 S. Circle Drive and a service will be held on Saturday at Soldier Memorial Chapel, Ft. Carson at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
