Aunt Catherine was the "cool" aunt during my childhood, as far as I was concerned. She was SO kind to me when I was a child. I remember when I was 12 or 13 and had an awful toothache, which I was afraid to tell my parents about because I thought I'd get in trouble for not brushing my teeth like I should. Aunt Catherine and Uncle Leo came to visit. I stayed in my room, crying. Aunt Catherine opened my door, saw me crying, and immediately came and sat down next to me on my bed, put her arm around me, and asked what was wrong. I told her about my aching tooth. She went to my parents, told them my problem, and brought them back to my room. Instead of being upset with me, they were concerned and did what they could to stop the pain. If I hadn't been such a "dumb kid", I would've known what Aunt Catherine knew: when your child is in pain, you FIX it! She was just such a natural, wonderful human being. I thought of her as so sophisticated, and wanted to impress her as much as she impressed me. I found that I didn't need to "put on airs", or be something I wasn't. I just needed to be me. I love you, Aunt Catherine, and I thank you for being YOU!
