Charles Blohm Obituary

Charles Edward "Ed" Blohm, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at home on August 20, 2015 in Monument, Colorado. Ed was born to the late George and Pearl Blohm on June 7, 1929 in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida and was the youngest of eight boys.

In 1952, Ed completed his military service after serving four years in the U.S. Navy. Ed married the love of his life, Alberta "Tiger" Orwig, and they were married on December 20, 1953. They had one daughter, Mary-Margaret "Bunkie"(Byrd).

In 1956, Ed began his 33-year long tenure at IBM. The

highlight of his career was the four years he spent in Paris, France while working as Program Manager for Contract

Practices for IBM Europe. Ed and Alberta lived on the East Coast in Maryland and Virginia until 1997 when they moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to Mary, and their four grandchildren. Ed "Pop-Pop" loved his grandchildren so very much and they adored him as well.

Ed was a life-long learner who loved reading, crossword

puzzles, grammar "critique" and politics. He truly enjoyed

getting to know others and had a joke ready for every

occasion. He was intelligent, quick-witted, hardworking,

caring, and devoted to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Ed is survived by his wife Alberta; daughter Mary (Larry); grandchildren Jessica (Jacob) Miller, Alex (Ashton), Christian, and Michaela; and his sweet 16 and a half year-old dog, Ms. Georgie.

A memorial service will be held on September 26, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to

Ecumenical Social Ministries, 201 N. Weber Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80903.

I had the privilege of being Ed's homecare nurse for 14 months. I quickly grew to love him and Alberta. It was such an honor to know him. He always thanked me sincerely before I left, even on the days that I KNOW he preferred I not come and treat him. What a gentleman! He occasionally corrected my grammar with a snicker, but I was proud of myself when he said my grammar was in the top 2% of the population! Haha. I'm sure I have mistakes in this small entry. Rest in the Palm of His hand, Ed! Don't cause too much trouble in heaven with your brothers!

Uncle Eddie was a most special person. He was intelligent, handsome, funny, gracious, and had the ability to make everyone feel special. Bert, MM, grandchildren, mother, brothers, neices, nephews, and pets all shared a special love for him. He will always hold a place in our hearts. Patsy

Ed, you treated everyone like they were someone special, you handled great hardship with humor, and you chalanged yourself when others would have given up. I will never forget you.

I worked with Ed at IBM. He brought humor and a good spirit to every situation. He was just a great guy to have in the department. We love Tiger and wish her and the family our deepest condolences.

I've lost a wonderful friend, but I know Ed is safe in God's arms and keeping all the angels laughing with his stories and jokes. Rest in peace dear friend.
