Charles Dodson Obituary

Our beloved Dad, Chuck Dodson, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2012. He was born in LaFayette, GA to Charlie Brown and Gladys Dodson. After playing baseball at school, he joined the US Air Force and embarked on a 23-year career in communications that took him all over the world and landed him at RAF Alconbury, England where he met his wife, Sue, and began his family in little English villages that both charmed and provided him colorful stories with which to later reminisce. As he became more English, he quickly developed a taste for tea and shared a passion for football with his dear and late father-in-law Maurice. Finishing his military career, he chose to retire in Colorado Springs. Aside from appreciating natural beauty of the Rockies, he had a great love of sports, specifically Man U and Dallas. But his greatest joy was found in his beloved granddaughter Natalie. He is preceded in death by his wonderful wife Susan Dodson whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this year. Chuck is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christine Dodson; granddaughter Natalie and grandson Justin; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Wayne Hicks, their family Rob, Timoney, Kevin, Ryan, Stephanie and Mila Hicks. He is also survived by his brother Steve Dodson; nephew Joe Dodson and wife Suzie; niece Stephanie Hart and family; Aunt Sybil Hix; cousins Sandy Church, Alan Hix and families. A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, May 29 in Colorado Springs at the Lehmberg Chapel of the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or the American Diabetes Association. Chuck will be sadly missed but always treasured in our hearts.

I worked with Chuck for 5 years, at the National Test Facility, Falcon AFB. He was my walking buddy, and good friend! We used to laugh at the numbers of jackrabbits and bull snakes we saw on our walks, given the fact that the facility was located out on the prairie. Once I left the facility I lost track of my buddy, and wish I could have talked to him one more time. You're now enjoying God's glory, Chuck, but I still miss you.

"Chuck" and I were good friends and walking buddies, when we worked together at the National Test Facility, Falcon Air Force Base. I left in 1994, and will always regret losing touch with him. He was a great guy, and someone who's personality and integrity I'll always remember. One of the main things I remember so vividly, was how he talked about his wife, and the fact that she was raised in England. So our talks about "The Royals" were often our main topic of conversation. God bless you, good friend. I know you're with our Lord.

I worked with Chuck at (what was then called) Falcon AFB. He was one of my very favorite people, he was my walking buddy every day at lunch time, and he spoke about his family and how dearly he loved him. That was back in 1994, he was a conscientious hard worker in the Command Center that I had the security oversight of, and I had always wished that there were more people like him, to interface with.

My condolences to the Dodson family on the loss of Chuck. I was stationed with him at RAF Croughton ASC. He was a warmhearted man who had a great sense of humor. May he rest in peace.

Chuck was one of the first people I met when I moved into the neighborhood. I always enjoyed his company as we chatted about books ,current events and just about anything else. He was a very decent man, a good neighbor and a great friend.

I was stationed with Chuck at RAF Bentwaters, Communication Center, and shared some wonderful times with him, especially playing the game of pinocle, while Jane and Mike played with our children John and Laura. It was Chuck & Sue against Hazel and Me, and I dare say it was fifty, fifty, unless it was the men against the girls. My wife, Hazel who was also British got along swell with Susan, and we managed to get together when he was stationed at Croughton, England, and at MacDill AFB. We will surely miss them. I worked with Chuck at Schriever and had the joy of spending some good times with him and Sue years ago. I loved his stories and talking baseball with him. My thoughts are with his family.
