Charles H. "Bampy" Galloway II

Charles Galloway Obituary

On the early morning of June 5th, Charles took his final journey to join his beloved Barbara in eternity. Charles was born September 28, 1933, outside Yazoo City, Mississippi to Helen and Charles Galloway. There he continued to live for a few years with his grandfather and beloved sister, Josie. Later Charles and Josie moved to Chicago with the family where he attended school and excelled. He also participated avidly in what would become one of his greatest joys, basketball. At the age of 18, Charles joined the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in High Wycombe England where he met his wife of 45 years, Barbara. Charles and Barbara traveled to many parts of the world: Korea, Japan, England France, Germany, Spain, Greece and Canada. "Bampy" as he was dubbed by his first grandchild, was active in playing basketball, coaching basketball and taking his military team to the European Conference many times. Later in life, "Bampy" continued to be active in sports; changing the focus to children. He coached basketball and baseball. He also spent many seasons known as Mr. Ump in Canada. Charles always cared more for others than himself and continued this until his very last days here. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, 15 months ago. His heart weighed heavy for this loss and he yearned to hold his beloved once more. Charles H. Galloway I, his father, also preceded him in death. He leaves here to grieve and mourn: his daughter, Elizabeth; his son, Charles III; grandchildren: Danielle, Rashaad, Jennifer, "the baby" Chantal, Meagan, Charles IV, Christian; three greatgranddaughters; his mother, Helen; his sisters: Josie, Verajean and Deborah; his brothers: Enoch, Earl and James, whom he loved dearly; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. His home and family abroad feels this loss also. In England he leaves to mourn: Alison, John, Adam, Samantha, Louise, Wayne, Anne, "the fellas", and Adrian. Bampy touched all that had the honor of being in his presence. His capacity for love and understanding will never be surpassed or equaled. It is only in knowing that Charles and Barbara are together that we find solace. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to: Dr. Curtis Pink, Dr. David Headly, Dr. Steven Benecke, Anne Zobec, Kim Uptergrove, Krista , Outpatient Oncology at Memorial Hospital, Memorial Hospital Inpatient Oncology, Radiation Oncology at Memorial and Penrose Hospitals. A special thank you to the Patient Access Staff at Memorial Hospital; without whom this difficult time would have been worse. Your love, support and understanding made it possible for our family to be together. Charles appreciated greatly all the kindness that has been shown to his daughter during these difficult years. Without LifeSource Hospice, Chuck would not have had such a peaceful journey. Ruth your laughter; it cheered, your kindness calmed us. David your wings sheltered Chuck from the storm, you not only cared but you healed Chuck spiritually. Julie, Brenda your support and help continues to grow with us. To all at LifeSource Hospice, thank you for showing us there is dignity in death. Little Magic Fingers; Danielle, your touch soothed a broken body. God bless all who helped in this journey for Chuck. Elaine, Mr. Hop, thank you. Private services to be held in High Wycombe England. Bampy has left the building!
