Charles Hopper, Sr Obituary

Charles Randall Hopper Sr , age 66, died on December 8, 2016 in his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born Nov 21, 1950 in Brownsville, TX to Samuel and Opal Hopper (Sears). He worked in the motorcycle and auto industry.

Chuck was a passionate and genuine person who's passion for motorcycles was exceeded only by his love for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Laura, and his four children: Sons Chuck Hopper Jr (wife Lori Liberick); Johnny Hopper (wife Paige Mondragon); Daughters Lora Hopper; Christina Hopper (Peterson) husband Rylon; his Grandchildren Charles (Randy) Hopper III; Rachel; Paige; Kaleb; Sammy; Kyla; Rylon Jr (RJ); and Joy; Sister Carolyn Hopper (Stewart) along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers Bobby and David.

Chuck loved motorcycles and racing. His racing career began in the 1970's in Missouri. He achieved his expert, pro license in AMA motocross with many local and regional wins. He raced motocross, ice, off road and on Pikes Peak in the 80's and 90's in Colorado. In 1994 he won the 250 Pro Motorcycle division on Pikes Peak. His passion for racing carried over to his sons, Chuck Jr and Johnny and grandson Randy.

To know Chuck was to know someone special. He lived his life to the fullest each moment. He was a mentor to many in racing and in life. He said what he felt and always stood by what he said. He cherished his relationships with his family and close friends. He could give peace and perspective in his words. He was loved and was an icon to more people than he ever knew. He left this world peacefully regretting only that he could not stay longer and have more fun. In lieu of flowers, hug someone you love and remember to smile and look up. There will be a celebration of life in his honor.

The only person to go off my big gap ramp. No landing ramp. On someone else's bike!

I just now found out about this void we must now deal with. We had many a battle on the ice and he was not opposed to taking a guy out. And then he would help you. I came into work one morning to find he had lowered my 250 for ice the night before. Just because. That bike was undefeated for three years. I learned much from him, sometimes about what not to do, but mostly how to laugh at myself. He knew what was important. Dammit, tears on the keyboard.
