Charles Horton Obituary

Charles Earl Horton, age 90, of Anniston, Alabama passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. A graveside service for Mr. Horton will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Forestlawn Gardens, 730 Golden Springs Rd., Anniston, Alabama 36207. Services will be officiated by Bro. Milton Harris. Mr. Horton is survived by his daughter Teri Horton Suter and her husband Philip; his brother Wallace Horton; his sisters Mary Huddleston and Martha Caton. Mr. Horton is preceded in death by his parents William Thomas and Ressie Horton; his brothers William Merrill Horton and Paul Horton. Mr. Horton was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. He was active in his church and enjoyed serving because he loved Jesus. Mr. Horton retired from the Air Force, as a Master Sergeant, in 1972. He was proud to have served his country and a few years after his retirement, he became the Veterans Service Officer for Calhoun County and eventually the District Manager. He loved helping and serving his fellow veterans, and he did so for over 20 years until he retired in 2004. He did not slow down after retirement, he continued serving in his church, volunteering on the board of the Opportunity Center, exercising regularly at the YMCA, and visiting family and friends. He had health issues in 2018 that left him unable to do all the things he loved, but he did his best to push forward with the help of his family and caregivers. The family would like to thank his amazing caregivers Vicki Holley, Katie Holley and Vickie Haynes for all the love, compassion, support and kindness given to him and his family.

Mr. Horton was a good man. He was extremely helpful to me whenever I visited or called his office, as I provided assistance to my clients in my job as a social worker. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
