Charles E. Moore, 71, of Widefield, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, at Dove-Witt Funeral Home, 6630 Highway 85-87 in Fountain. He was born January 28, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Thomas and Hilda Moore. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served his country for 25 years before retiring as a master sergeant in 1979. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he embarked on a second career as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1998. He married Mary Nee on June 6, 1959. They shared the life journey of a military family, moving across the United States and spending four years in Japan. They settled in Widefield in 1974 when he was assigned to NORAD. After retirement, Chuck and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandsons, whom they loved deeply. Mary preceded Chuck in death in 2002. Chuck was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Moore and Kate Gannon of Fort Collins, Thomas and Sherri Moore of Colorado Springs, and Michael and Megan Moore of Casper, Wy.; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Eugene Matthews of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Adam Matthews of Springfield, Mo., Alex Matthews of Fort Collins, Nicholas Moore and Ethan Moore of Colorado Springs, and Christian Moore, Hunter Moore and Brady Moore of Casper; a brother, James Moore of Mobile, Ala., and two sisters-in-law, Colleen Moore and Anne Moore of Pittsburgh. In his last days, Chuck benefited from the compassionate care of the staff at Memorial Hospital, particularly the devoted nurses and aides in the intensive care unit. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1519 E. Boulder, Colorado Springs, CO 80909, or to a favorite charity.

Mr. Moore was a wonderful, sweet man. It was an honor to have met him. I know he'll be sitting at a crowded banquet table!
