Charles Salladay Obituary

Charles Edward Salladay was born on March 13, 1928 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Lee Raymond and Lena Johnson Salladay. Charlie's grandparents homesteaded in the Ellicott area in 1898 where Charlie resided until his passing.

Charlie was a farmer and a dairyman from a very young age until failing health caused him to retire in 1985. During his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycling, square dancing, and other activities involving family and a multitude of friends.

On March 20, 1950 he married his loving wife, June, of 64 years. Together they raised four children: Gordon (Debbie) Salladay, Brian (Rose) Salladay, Christy (Lloyd) Malone, Sandy (Mike) Salladay-Higgins, and one daughter/granddaughter, Karen Higgins, who came to live with them before the age of 2. Together they have five grandchildren: Tracy Wilcox, Aaron Salladay, Sharra Miller, Clem and Elizabeth Malone, and 10 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Inezbelle Williams; and two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Brownewell, and Gayle Cropp.

Charlie was active in the community. He served on the Ellicott School Board for 12 years and he was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. Charlie was on the original Board of Directors for the Board of Cooperative Services, the Board of Directors for the Ellicott Fire Protection District for eight years, and was on the Volunteer Fire Department for over 34 years. His associates on the Fire Department would not let him retire because he was the only engineer they had.

A Memorial Service was held Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Central United Methodist Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The family requests donations in Charlie's memory be made to the Ellicott Fire Department or the Central United Methodist Church.
