Charles Sickles Obituary

Charles Daniel (Pop) Sickles, 85, of Colorado Springs passed away peacefully June 11 th at St. Anthony Central in-patient hospice in Denver. He was born August 28, 1925 in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Robert M. and Viola C. (Getzmeyer) Sickles. He grew up in Colorado. Charles is survived by his wife, Marie, and two sons, Vince of Denver and Robert (wife Rebecca) of Highlands Ranch, CO. His three brother, William, Robert, and Walter, preceded him in death. Before completing high school, Charles joined the Navy and served on the USS Haverfield, Destroyer Escort which operated in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans during World War II. After the war, he married Marie J. Fischer of Winthrop, MA, July 4, 1948. The couple moved to Omaha, NE as Charles earned a degree in accounting from Omaha Univeristy (University of Nebraska at Omaha). He began his accounting career with a local Accounting firm in Colorado Springs. He was also the office manager for the Colorado Springs Equipment Company, and an internal auditor for the city of Colorado Springs. Charles was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After retiring from the city of Colorado Springs, Charles started playing golf on a regular basis. He was known as "Pop" among his golfing and bowling cohorts. As an avid bowler, he participated in numerous leagues. He also enjoyed gardening and improving his computer technology skills. He will be missed by many. The Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, August 6th @ 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at the NE corner of 21st Street and Colorado Avenue.
