Charlotte Olson Obituary

Charlotte J. Olson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on November 3, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her faith and strength during this ordeal were an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was born August 7, 1932 in northern Maine. After graduating from Houlton High School, she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.

In 1952, she married Donald, an Air Force pilot recently graduated from the Aviation Cadet Program. This was the beginning of an Air Force career that would last for 32 years, leading them to many interesting assignments including a long tour in Casablanca, French Morocco. They raised a family of four children, born in Maine, French Morocco, and Texas.

She loved being a homemaker and was an exceptional cook. The household was always alive with children, family, friends and dinner guests. She was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours sewing for her family and friends. Her other interests included crafts, gardening, Chapel and choir activities and volunteer work. She was fond of participating in her local Bible Study Group activities. Donald and Charlotte enjoyed camping and RV trips with their family and friends. Charlotte was a friend to all and a mentor to many.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Donald Olson; loving children, Deborah (Mike) Witherspoon of Colorado Springs; Michael (Wendy) Olson of Carmichael, CA; and Janice (Kevin Kotowski) Olson of Torrance, CA; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Air Force Captain Richard Olson.

Visitation will take place Sunday, November 9 from 2 - 4 pm at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10 at 11 am in the Swan-Law chapel. The graveside service will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation in recognition of the loving care they provided. 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 90806, 719-633-3400 or www.pikespeakhospice.org

Not sure what to say?

I sent a message November 10th and failed to sign my name. We were neighbors for 40+ years and missed everyone when we moved several years ago but was thankful to see you two in March as we travelled through CO to MO. You and your family are in my prayers. Carolyn Bauman

I was truly saddened to hear of Charlotte's passing. We've lost a very special lady. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same. Charlotte was one of those people for me. What struck me most about her from the very first time we met was how sweet she was. She radiated a warmth and kindness that touched me deeply. Charlotte brought a special light into my life and I will never forget her.

I am sorry to hear of Charolette's passing to the other side but we know she wouldn't want to come back as she is healthy & happy once again. I enjoyed going to "Applebees" with Charlotte and Faye (we were all neighbors) every other week or so. I am also thankful we (my son, Dwayne and his family and I) were able to see you two this past March for hellos and hugs while visiting in Colorado Springs.

Dear Col. Olson and family,

I am sure the choir of angels is sounding even more heavenly these days, as I'm sure Charlotte has made it a point to jump right in and get involved! In fact, I bet she's right there in the front row :)

Our loss is surely Heaven's gain, but I, like so many others, will choose to celebrate her life and not her loss.

With much love from California,
Mary Beth MacLennan

Dear Don & family,
So sorry to hear of Charlotte's passing. She fought a good battle, but evidently God wanted to have her
with Him for Christmas this year. She was such a LADY. Couldn't help but love & admire her. Be thankful for all the years you had with her.
We enjoyed living near you at Cora & having you both as friends. Thanks for all the gopher removal you did for the neighborhood!.
Lean on God and take one day at a time now. Will be tough without her, but thank goodness she's out of pain.
Love to you,
Jim & Janet Dickerson

Charlotte was my cousin. Our fathers, Gerald and Donald, were brothers. While I did not know Charlotte once we were grown and scattered, I have very warm memories of visiting their home in Houlton, Maine when I was a little girl. I loved going there where the train stopped under their house and unloaded fruit to be distributed to local stores. The smells were heavenly. And of course I loved being around my glamorous cousins, Donna and Charlotte! They were so beautiful. They were always so nice to me even though I was a much younger and pesky child. I cherish these memories of yesteryear. And I send you all love and many blessings as you send her off to her final reward. Cousin, Janet Beals Alexander, Harpswell, Maine

Dear Olson Family. We always enjoyed when Don and Charlotte visited Mike and Wendy in Idaho Falls, especially the nice dinners and camping outings. Wendy always teased Charlotte and I when we went shopping as we are both short and she couldn't find us in the clothing aisles. She was a beautiful, kind lady. Blessings to the family.
