Cherolynn Westfall "Chey" Green

Cherolynn Green Obituary

Cherolynn "Chey" Westfall Green was a compassionate, loving woman who battled cancer to the end, May 22, 2007. She was spirited and fun-loving and spent her final days making family and friends smile with her sense of humor and wit. Chey passed in her home with her husband, Ken, at her side and with caring thoughts expressed by family and friends through many visits, cards and calls. She was genuinely cherished. Chey was born in to Donald E. and Pat Carrico Westfall in Lamar, Colorado, Oct. 4, 1951 and was a small-town girl who was proud of her Colorado roots. The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where she spent much of her childhood and she graduated from high school there. Her family traveled to the Pikes Peak area often and spent summers in Manitou Springs. She always knew she would return and in 1998 Chey and Ken moved to Colorado Springs. She married her husband, Ken, May 24, 1986 after meeting him on a Bahamas vacation. She was a bookkeeper and accountant most of her life until her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Selflessly, she quit her job and cared for her mother through the end of her disease. It was that love for the elderly - and specifically her desire to help those struggling with Alzheimer's disease - that led her to become Office Manager for the Colorado Springs Regional Office of the Alzheimer's Association for seven years. Through her work she touched many lives and families and helped them in countless ways. She worked with volunteers and was always thankful for the friendships she developed through the cause of Alzheimer's. Chey loved the mountains of Colorado and with her husband, and dogs Martha and Greeta, she enjoyed a get-away in Rosita at the cabin they own there. She shared her cabin with many so they too could appreciate her beloved Colorado mountains. Chey said often there was no other place she wanted to live than Colorado. Chey leaves behind those whom she has nurtured throughout the years: family, friends and those whose lives she touched in unknown ways. She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Colorado Springs; her aunt and uncle, Judy and Dudley Curry of Colorado Springs; sister Chris and Dennis Ballard of Enid, Oklahoma and sister Charmaine and Rodney Cottongim of Stillwater, Ohlahoma as well as a niece, nephews and unknown numbers of friends. A memorial service of spirit and love will be held at Hillside Gardens, 1006 S. Institute, on Friday, May 25, 2007. A reception will follow at the home of Judy and Dudley Curry. Chey would like memorial donations to be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2135 Bott Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 in memory of her mother, Pat Westfall. Celebrate her life!

Ken, as we wrote in the card we sent you, it was a pleasure meeting you and Chey at Chuck & Lyana's(my sis). They treasured you both as their friends. Do you remember my sis, Shirley, just loved Chey's name and wanted to change hers to that name? May God bless you with the peace and understanding, knowing where your darling wife is now resting until you meet again. love, JoAnn & Ken Wilkins

Just as a poem I read recently said--it's not the dates on the tombstone that count in one's life--it's the "dash" in between. And Chey lived hers to the fullest and with such panache! Our family knew from the beginning her sense of humor was special when she was locked in an outhouse as a joke and came out smiling! She will be missed but in our hearts forever.

Our beloved Chey, we will miss your wit, charm, laughter and friendship enormously. We vow to honor your wishes -- to remember you as you were before you became ill and for memories of your life to provide us joy, not sorrow. We regret that "the MTV song" wish of yours that we joked about so often became a reality much sooner than any of us ever imagined. Dearest Ken, Chey's memory will be the keepsake that lives forever in your heart. We love you.

Chey was a truly wonderful person to have known. Her loss will be felt daily by those who knew her. The summertime BBQ's in the driveway won't be the same. We are so sorry for your loss Ken. We know how much you love her. We all do. We pray she is safe in God's arms in a strong and healed body.

Dear Ken,
What a wonderful team you and Chey made! Your marriage not only nurtured each other, but all of your family and friends, as you invited us into both of your homes.
We will cherish and miss Chey's sense of humor above all, but we know her spirit will always be with us! Chey, we love you!
