Chester Derezinski Obituary

Chester John Derezinski, age 89, beloved father, uncle, grandfather and friend, ended his journey on earth, going on to his eternal life on November 5, 2012 in Colorado Springs. The third of six children, Chet was born May 15, 1923 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Walter and Katherine Derezinski. Chet spent his career in the military. From 1942 to 1946 during World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp working in the fields of communications and electronics. After leaving the Air Corp, Chet spent five years teaching and coaching at Shiocton High School in Wisconsin. He was recalled into active duty in 1951 with the start of the Korean War, and joined the newly-formed Air Force branch of service. After various assignments in the Pacific Theater, the Pentagon, NORAD, SAGE, and Cam Rohn Bay, Vietnam, Chet retired in 1971. In his early years, Chet was an accomplished athlete playing high school, county, and college football, basketball and baseball. With his playing years behind him, Chet continued to enjoy sports by cheering on his favorite football teams: the Air Force Academy Falcons, the Green Bay Packers, and of course, the Denver Broncos. Chet also had a love of music and dancing. He was a skilled drum and clarinet musician, and spent many years square-dancing with his lovely wife, Rose - they even danced on the top of Pikes Peak! What was most memorable about Chet was his strong religious faith which began at a young age as an alter server, and continued with his many years as an Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael's Parish at the Air Force Academy. His faith gave him the ability to cope with life's many trials. Chet always remained a positive and optimistic force with his family and friends. Chet was predeceased by his loving wife, Rose; two daughters, Jane Leah and Lois Jean; three brothers, Robert, George and Joseph; his two sisters, Irene and Theresa. Surviving are his two daughters, Sue Roeder and husband, Don of Brewer, Maine, and Kathleen Derezinski of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren, Chris, Ben and Rachel; five great-grandchildren, Ally, Lauren, Colin, Emma and Harper. Chet also leaves behind his "extended" family who were as loving and caring as any family members could be: Sherrie and Kevin Moss; Cheryl and Jeff Klamurus; Denise and Mike O'Shea; and Connie and Jack Wetterer; and the wonderful residents and staff of ViewPointe. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, November 11, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Swan Law Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Monday, November 12, 10:00 a.m. at the Swan-Law Funeral Director's Cascade Chapel. Burial to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Assoc.), Rocky Mountain Chapter, P.O. Box 7964, Boulder, CO 80306.

A few words to family & friends of Chet.

I only wished I could have known my Uncle Chet better, Aunt Rose, also. Miles kept many of us apart. When I read his obituary, I was deeply touched from beginning to end. His life.....a teacher & coach, musician, his religious faith, a minister, on & on. What an amazing life he lived. Also including the Green Bay Packers being one of his favorite teams. (Smile) Most special to me, I had known of his career in the Military, but not all of how he served our country over many years. I am so honored to know he was my uncle. His funeral services began on Veteran's Day. A peaceful memory for all of us to hold on to. From now on, I will always remember Uncle Chet, when honoring our brave men & women who fought for all of us over time (and still are). Again, I wished I would have had the privilege to know my Uncle Chet so much more, over all those years.
Peace & love to all of you.

Mary and I are also so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. Not only is his smile etched into my memory, but also the smile of my elegant Aunt Rose. I remember the pure joy with which Uncle Chet pitched the softball to young nieces, nephews and his daughters at the many family reunions, and how he was always so interested in our lives.

It's with a smile that I remember Uncle Chet. The reason for the smile it that he ALWAYS had one for me and all our other relatives. I have fond memories of our family trip "out west" to your home. I also enjoyed your family's visits to Wisconsin and to the Zvolena family reunions. It was such a pleasure to have you stay with us on our farm. Uncle Chet and Aunt Rose will always have a special place in my heart.

We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear father, also known to me as Uncle Chet. I still have beautiful memories way back of our family (Ethel and Frank Zvolena) trip to Washington DC over 55 years ago! I also remember the trip to Colorado Springs in August 1993 to visit Aunt Rose and Uncle Chet with Larry. The grand tour we went on with him as our awesome guide are tucked away in our family album; including a picture of the Air Force Academy Chapel. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. He finally is with his beloved Rose. Larry & Karen Hargrave, Berlin, WI

To the family of my friend Chet.
I have only know Chet for the past 15 years, but it was a pleasure to know him. We served together at St. Michael's at the Air Force Academy. He will be missed by me and my family.
