Christeen Edstrom Obituary

Christeen Marie Edstrom passed away peacefully on August 13, 2012 in Malvern, Pennsylvania, at the home of her daughter, Linda. She is remembered for her sweet, quiet spirit and her willingness to help and encourage others. Born in Colorado Springs on November 12, 1915 to Marie (Petterson) and Alfred Young, she was the youngest of four children and the last surviving sibling. On September 21, 1934, Christeen married David Edstrom and together they had three children. After his death in 1956, she worked until retirement for Sheppards Citation, a division of McGraw-Hill. In 1999, she moved to Malvern, Pennsylvania to live with her daughter and family. Although she was forever loyal to her Swedish heritage, Christeen was proud to be a native Coloradan. She loved the mountains, blue sky and the numerous weather changes on a single day in "The Springs." She served the Women's Club of Colorado Springs in many capacities and was an active member of the First Evangelical Free Church, from the early days on Boulder Street to its present location at 30th and West Fontanero. Christeen was devoted to her family, and they to her. She took delight in 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 3 nephews. She is survived by a son, David John and wife, Susan of Trophy Club, Texas; a daughter, Linda and husband William Huffman of Malvern, Pennsylvania; daughter, Marilyn and husband Dan Kaufman of Napa, California. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, September 18 in the Fireside Room of the First Evangelical Free Church, 3022 West Fontanero Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Free Church or Neighborhood Hospice, 400 East Marshall Street, West Chester, PA 19380.

September 5, 2012

My mother, Irma Lee Evans Wenger often spoke of Chrissy, as she called her, with fondness. When Irma Lee was about 12 years old in 1936, Chrissy was her Sunday School teacher. Chrissy had a profound impact on Irma Lee, and the kindness and caring Chrissy gave to young girls is still remembered. Thank you Chrissy. May your light continue to shine bright in heaven.
