Clair Miller Obituary

Clair Miller was born to Kenneth and Aley Miller on September 13, 1920 at the family farm near Numa, Iowa.

He is survived by his son, Terry Miller; his granddaughter, Chris McKenzie; his sister, Carolyn Davids; and his brothers, Robert (Bob), William (Bill), and Carl Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marty; and his sister, Betty Bonnichsen.

Clair met his wife, Marty, at the Five and Dime in Centerville, Iowa where she worked at the candy counter. During World War II he was stationed at Fort Carson for basic training and fell in love with the Colorado Springs area. He brought Marty here and they were married at the El Paso County Court House in 1943.

Clair worked briefly at Air Craft Mechanics before he joined the Post Office where he rose from postal clerk to Post Master. He retired in 1972, but continued to be involved in the community as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and as a founding member of the Flutter Wheels Square Dance group. Clair and Marty were inducted into the Southeast Area Square Dance Council's Hall of Fame in 1994.

Clair's brothers and sisters, with their families, joined Clair and Marty here in Colorado Springs. They shared many of the pleasures of the area from picnicking in Garden of the Gods, Austin Bluffs, and North Cheyenne Canyon to camping and tubing on the Platte River.

Clair and Marty shared over 70 years together and passed away within two weeks of each other. They will be greatly missed.

In accordance with their wishes, no services will be held.

Uncle Clair I will miss you very much. I'm so glad the girls and I got to see you one last time. I'll miss all the nicknames you came up with and throwing the straw wrappers at restaurants, and blaming us.
