Claire Joan Bunge went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving children. She was born on April 21, 1930, and raised in Sioux City, Iowa.
She attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, where she met John. She taught school in Arapahoe, Nebraska, from 1950-1951.
The couple was married June 24, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Soon after, they moved to Long Beach, California, where John served as principal of St. John's Lutheran School. During 1957-1959 Claire taught at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Downey, California where their two daughters, Colleen, and Ruth were born. In 1959 the family moved to Colorado Springs, where John served as principal at Immanuel Lutheran School. Their son, Mark, was born in Colorado Springs.
Claire was the first kindergarten teacher at Immanuel and served in that position from 1966-1969. After that, she became a Unit Secretary in Pediatrics at Memorial Hospital from 1970 to 1990.
Claire and John traveled to Germany twice with relatives and studied their family roots. They went to the Holy Land with their pastor and friends in 1996, and they also enjoyed two trips to Hawaii.
Claire was devoted to her family and her faith. She sang in the choir for over 20 years. She was blessed to be surrounded by four generations with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Colleen (James) Young and Ruth (Bruce) Robinson and a son, Mark (Mary) Bunge. She is survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband John H. Bunge, her parents Edward L. Peterson and Ida (Schwier) Peterson, brother Paul Edward Peterson, and her granddaughter Sarah Young.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave.
The family requests memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

I will so miss your mom! She is an awesome lady. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My heart is aching with missing her, but I know she is happy and whole. I am so sorry for your loss.
