Clarence Smith Obituary

Clarence Douglas Smith, a resident of Colorado Springs for 69 years, passed away on December 19, 2014.



Clarence was born on January 21, 1926 to John and Gladys (Berg) Smith in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He spent most of his younger years in Texas and graduated from Ennis High School in 1944.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Tail Gunner. He married Sharlotte Olive Jackson on November 27, 1947 in Raton, New Mexico. The couple just celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. After his military service, he worked for School District 11 as Head Custodian.



He was a former member of Grace Baptist Church and served there as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and a song leader. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and hunting. He also loved to play Solitaire and watch sports; particularly Texas A&M.



He is survived by his wife, Sharlotte; his children: Pat (Ken) Jahn, Wayne Smith, JoEtta (Bruce) Wilkerson, and Tammy (Mark) Briody; his sister, Etta Marie; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Waylon; his grandson, Tim; his brother, Lawrence; and his sister, Ethel Mae.



A visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Clarence was the best father in law anyone could ever have...we will keep many good memories of holidays, birthdays and camping trips. Condolences to all of the family.
