Clarice Gilchrist Obituary

Clarice (Risë) Aileen Gilchrist was born July 17, 1954 in Bronxville, New York. She was the daughter of Jocelyn Marshall Wallace, Philanthropist, and Carl Peter Swartz, former ambassador of Sweden. Her earliest years were spent between Paris, and Stockholm; before she settled in New York.

Risë loved love. She followed it all of her life, and in the early 1980's she made her way to Colorado. As a certified Master Gardener, one of her proudest accomplishments was designing the wildflower installation at the widely acclaimed Esthervue Wildlife Sanctuary. Later, she dedicated herself to the innocents, the one's who couldn't speak for themselves. This was most evident with her extensive work rehabilitating wildlife. It is a delicate balance to love a wild creature and nurture it but then be able to let it go back to its natural state. Those of us left behind to honor Risë's memory are experiencing this balancing act now. She found great comfort and joy in her family. A foundation which carried her through her life. The most important thing about Risë was not that she lived deeply nor loved deeply, though she did both; but how she encouraged those around her to do the same with abandon. Oh and she made a formidable turkey.

Though she passed quickly on June 28, 2016 with her daughter and son-in-law holding each of her hands, her legacy will be anything but short lived.

She is survived by her daughter Amanda Kate McCloskey and son-in-law Joseph McCloskey, granddaughters, Aisley and Demarest, her brothers, Thomas, Marshall, Angus, Alexander, her sister Juliette, her step mother Ulla Swartz, her step brothers Carl-Otto and Nappe, and her step sister Madeleine.

My friend - what a perfect synopsis your family wrote about you. We'd need a mini series to say it all and actually that wouldn't cover it. Anyone who had the blessing to be in your life is a better individual because of you. I'll walk the path friend, Chris
