Claudia Pino Obituary

Claudia Pino
March 3, 1948
October 18, 2023

Our sister, the oldest of five, is survived by her brother, John C. Pino and his loving wife Marie, as well as her sister, Jo Fredericks. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Laura, Lis and Greta and so many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as well as scores of close Pino and Eagan cousins. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Kevin and Stephen, brother-in-law, Ed, as well as parents Lewis and Carol Pino.
Claudia's love of the Colorado Rockies brought her back to the Springs many times after Dad left Colorado College for other academic positions. She returned for good after completing her B.A. in English at Mt. Holyoke. Her fondest memories were of the Chinook Bookshop and her many educated and witty colleagues. When the store closed in 2004 she was heartbroken. Claudia was a purist, a proud Luddite, an avid reader and a fierce competitor at Scrabble. She was a grammar maven and routinely corrected us on the use of "I" versus "me".
Thank you is not enough to express the family's appreciation for the staff at Forest Ridge Senior Living in Woodland Park (particularly her favorite nurse, Susan Moore). Her dear friends in Green Mountain Falls (Lana, Deb, Chris, David & Beth) kept her busy with lunches out and Scrabble games in. Her Chinook colleagues took turns reading to her in her final days. Above all our love goes out to our dear cousin, Philip Dreissigacker, who took her on dates every week and was with her as a warm, calming presence moments before she died in her sleep.
Per her wishes, Claudia's body has been donated for medical research in hopes she can help find a cure for multiple sclerosis. No funeral services are planned. In memory of Claudia please consider donating to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nationalmssociety.org

Claudia and I were good friends since high school and a summer science program at Colorado College. Our paths continued to cross over the years, last time in New Mexico. She sent me a March birthday wish every year, which reminded me to reciprocate. I was reading a new little book about relativity a few days ago and thought I need to send this to Claudia, which is how I discovered sadly she had passed. You will be fondly remembered old friend, I´ll miss you.

If you shopped at Chinook, you knew Claudia. If you worked at Chinook, you loved Claudia. She was a one-of-a-kind gem of a person. We were all so lucky to know her and have her in our lives.

My deepest condolences go out to Claudia's family & other friends. I was one of the lucky Chinookers who got to work with Claudia and we kept in touch through cards & emails all these years. We liked to talk about Italy & vent about common complaints. Yes was smart, funny and a good friend! I hope she's already working her way through the big library I hope heaven had waiting for her!

Claudia was our favorite staff member at Chinook. Many of our best books were her recommendations. I also remember waiting on her at Jose Muldoons when she came in for lunch. She was smart and hilarious and will be greatly missed.

I am so saddened to hear of Claudia´s passing. I was a publishing rep and used to sell to Claudia @ Chinook Book shop. She was a special lady.
