Clifford Sherwood Obituary

Dr. Clifford Sherwood, age 81, passed away on July 10, 2007 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence. He was an Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He was born on May 8, 1926 in DeKalb, Illinois the only child born to the late Clifford Herbert and Bernice Marie (Kahler) Sherwood. He grew up in Malta, Illinois and graduated from High School in Kearney, Nebraska in 1944. He entered the Navy V5 program at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, and then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While pursuing his Masters of Science in Anatomy and Physiology, he worked as a technician at the University of Colorado Medical School. He married Ruby Johnson on August 21, 1952. In 1956, he graduated from the University of Colorado Medical School. He interned at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan and spent one year in general practice in Ishpeming, Michigan. From 1958 to 1961, he took a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Holy Cross Hospital and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He spent 8 years practicing in Salt Lake City and moved to Colorado Springs in 1970 where he practiced for 21 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the El Paso County Medical Society and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is survived by his wife: Ruby B. Sherwood of Colorado Springs; 6 sons: Daniel Sherwood of Parker, Colorado; David Sherwood of Parker; Steven (Renae Gudvangen) of Highlands Ranch; Michael (Carla) of Agoura, California; Timothy of Parker, Gregory (Kathy) of North Oaks, Minnesota. He has two daughters: Barbara Sherwood (Charles Latibeaudiere) of Hermosa Beach, California; Catherine Bailey (Trey) of Alexandria, Virginia; and ten grandchildren. Dr. Sherwood enjoyed his mountain cabin in Blue River, Colorado and all the activities it encompassed… especially skiing and hiking. He enjoyed spending time with his children rebuilding cars, woodworking and home improvement projects. He loved the time spent with his grandchildren and his Irish Setters. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907. A reception will follow the services at the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made in his memory to the church; the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903 or to the charity of the giver's choice.

Dr. Sherwood and Ruby took excellent care of me and my baby Amanda 21 years ago, and afterward as well. What amazingly special people. Blessings to both of you. You'll be remembered in my prayers - again. I'll miss you, Dr. Sherwood!
