Connie Hostetler Obituary

Connie Mac Hostetler, (Colonel, USAF, Retired), 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Penrose Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Connie was born in Columbus, Indiana; grew up in Westport, Indiana and was a 1953 graduate of Sand Creek High School. He received his BA in 1957 from Indiana University and a MA from Webster University in Colorado Springs.

Col. Hostetler served for 26 years in the United States Air Force, including eighteen months air combat duty in Vietnam as a weapons systems officer in the F4 Phantom. He later served as a command director at the NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs. Connie retired from active duty in 1984. He was the recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (21) and Meritorious Service Medal.

Connie loved music and sang in many choirs during his lifetime. He was a member of the Sanctuary Choir at Village Seven Presbyterian Church and Soli Deo Gloria in Colorado Springs. He and his wife spent many years square dancing and round dancing together.

Connie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jeannie; son, Steven of Aurora, Colorado and daughter, Julie (Reed) Robins of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Rachel and Kyle Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conn and Katherine of Westport, Indiana who owned the Bass-Gaspar (Hostetler) Funeral Home in Westport until January 21, 1960.

A memorial service and military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, 4055 Nonchalant Circle South, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society or the Sanctuary Choir of Village Seven Presbyterian Church.
